I take hair supplements from GNC.. I was on their website and it said to discontinue the product 2 weeks prior to surgery. ya, so I'm having wisdom teeth surgery in 2 weeks, does it matter if I keep taking the supplements? what's the point of stopping 2 weeks before surgery?

Mama's right. Since supplements are not regulated by the FDA they don't have to adhere to any guidelines as far as what their content and potency are. (They don't even have to contain what they say they contain.) It's possible that the supplements could make you bleed profusely or they could interfere with any other medication you are prescribed for the surgery.

I am rather skeptical when it comes to supplements. Most of them (i.e. St. John's, echinacea, etc.) do not provide the benefits they espouse and they are no more natural than prescription medication.

They can interfere with lots of things. If it wasn't important, they wouldn't say it on their website. The website for products always is into making more money, so I would be afraid to not listen.

It could be that the supplements interfere with anesthesia or they thin the blood so that it is harder to stop bleeding.

You should check with your dentist to confirm.

Some supplements can cause thinning of your blood which can make you bleed more.
