God gave us life, everything in it and around it. He gives us our every breath! He even gave up His Son for us so that whoever believes and walks with Him in relationship will NOT go to hell but have eternal life. Yet everyone has so much trouble with believing that God would punish us if He was Love. So many fall into idolatry because they don't want the True God of the bible, but thier own god of "love, mercy, compassion, and forgiveness". God is all those things, but He also is just, righteous, holy, clothed in light.. so when we sin He has no choice but to turn from us, and if we stay in that sin until we die He can't let us into a perfect heaven of light when we've lived a life of darkness. He is our heavenly Father who as the bible says "chastens those He loves" or corrects, rebukes, slaps on the wrist if you will...all I'm saying is - our parents punish us for being disobediant and they are being good parents, but when God does it He's evil and cruel. why?

"His thoughts are not our thoughts, and His ways are not our ways" most of these responses so far were expected because everyone judges by what they see. 3rd world countries and all the strife and mayhem and death in the world - yeah it's bad out there - but God created everything for us..and gave us free will to do with his provisions as we desired. He says if you follow Me and let me guide you in life you will be blessed and protected. but if you live independently from Him the opposite will happen. NO WHERE IN THE BIBLE does it say those who follow God will never see pain or problems - BUT IT DOES SAY those who know God will have peace, protection, and joy and so much more while we are in those hard times. the Word also says "no eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him" If you are seeking to truely know God, He will reveal Himself to you. If you are seeking to discredit and mock God, you will always be frustrated.

you just assume that everyone believes in god or your god. There are many different religions, which one is the right one? I do believe there is a higher power but I believe most of our religions are just humans attempt to understand something that cannot be understood. The bad and good in our lives are mostly caused by humans not some god. Why do some people own five houses and drive a different car everyday of the week, while others starve, suffer and die? this is not your so called gods doing ....this is the greed and evil of the human. Greed will end us all.

Since all things came from God, then the devil himself also came from God. When Darkness ( chaos, confusion, etc...) was upon the face ( God ) of the deep, God separated the things inside Him. The most outstanding darkness is known to us as the devil. The outstanding Light is known to us as Jesus.
All the good in the world comes from Jesus.
All the bad in the world came from the devil.
SEPARATION ! All was manifest in the spiritual realm, and is being manifested in the natural realm. This separation process has been going on in the natural realm since the revealing of Satan, so all can see and judge.
Romans 1:20 says : For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so they are without excuse.
This same seperation is what is expected of Christians. We are to do introspection constantly, dividing the good from the evil. The darkness from the light. Replacing ignorance with understanding. We are to REVEAL what is in us, and judge. That righteous judgement is given to us by the Word .

You are making too many assumptions here. There is NO proof God exists. There is NO evidence of Gender.
You are making these statements because you have read someting written by humans. Humans make mistakes. Look at the dimwit president in the USA who claims to be a Chistian, yet he is murdering people every day at home and abroad.
Religion is the cause of most world problems today.
Why can't people just be good to each other with no strings attached.

Your question is asked in a wholly christian context, which is in itself unfair to many, because the concept of God is so more than that...More than we as mere humans can understand. However, my answer to this is simple and here it is:
People tend to think of God as cruel and unfair when things happen that make them feel bad. Human children think the same of their parents in similar situations...And of course, there is much that children do not understand.
In summation, we do not always understand God.

Btw Southpaw, this should clarify Christianity some for you:
According to the Christian doctrine, God came to earth as a man by incarnating himself into Jesus. This was done in order to bring himself closer to man, not to bring man closer to God. Jesus's death and descent into hell was so that God could more closely relate with the plight of mankind. In this instance, God was not sacraficing another, but was sacraficing himself. In the Christian Trinity, The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit are all the same One.

The Christian God did not come to send peace upon earth, but the sword. Matthew 10:34-36 says God turns everybody against everybody to make sure that no one loves anyone else more than God.

Deuteronomy Leviticus and Revelations approximately how donning mixed fabric is faulty, shaving your head and shaving your beard (right into a goatee) is faulty, or approximately how Jesus will kill all of the youngsters who had the misfortune to be born to adulterous dad and mom. ethical absurdities like the unhappy tale of a woman who tries to keep her husband from being overwhelmed up via yet another guy yet has the misfortune of touching the assailant's junk and (of direction) has to have her hand decrease off usually do little to shake the religion of believers because of the fact any such faith isn't understood in a literal way.

It's false to compare God with a parent. Our parents are human, not divine. They're not responsible for the context in which we all live, only for themselves. They didn't create humanity itself.
The cruelty lies in creating human nature and then condemning human nature. Creating sexual fascination in people, then legislating that it must be denied and only given very specific and limited outlets for expression.
"Envy," supposedly such a terrible sin, is part of what drives human progress. The desire to better your circumstances in comparison to others (mixed with hope and other ingredients) has driven innovation in science, medicine, you name it. I imagine the faithful are very grateful for this when they have to go to a hospital, but they simultaneously condemn the human impetus that brought them the care they need.

I do not believe God is cruel. He is merciful and provides. I'm alive and shouldn't be for so many reasons. When I was born, I needed life support for a while and have lived a life always getting sick or somewhat crippled. But you can hardly tell. I keep it hidden well because of my attitude. I love life and have so many hopes for it, even in my depressions.
I believe people are cruel and unfair.

I think for 2 reasons. First, there is a common misconception that God "allows" bad things to happen, especially citing when they happen to otherwise good people. But if we look at war and 3rd world famine and starvation, and genocide, and tyranny (etc, etc), these are man-made maladies. God is letting us rule ourselves, so to ask what you suggest with your question to me is like asking why God doesn't come and take the reins of power for us. I don't understand that sentiment myself. Second reason, I think it's a lemming effect. God bashing is "popular" so even those who haven't considered what they recite are just doing what seems to be the "thing" to do.

Too many people think God is there as a convenience. No work, all take-take-take. Just like any relationship, a good, strong relationship with God takes work. Also, God will see to the proper punishment that your sins are worthy. Some don't believe that they should ever be punished.
