In my Sociology class we were talkin about races and stuff and my professor said that Caucasian people have a distinct advantage in every aspect of their life in the United States. She is a Caucasian herself and she said "Especially in the dating world and the nightlife...they are the superior ones"

I couldn't exactly comprehend what she meant

Most of my classmates seemed to agree (about 23 outta 30 of us thru a show of hands by her statement)

IS that somewhat true? How??

Yes I believe it is. The majority of the U.S. is Caucasian. There have been multiple studies of how human interact with other races and it has been proven that many if not all whites have an advantage. Though I have to disagree with her on her examples she chose and how she said "They are the superior ones." I find that racist towards others and I bet that your class is probably Caucasian of the majority. YOUR TEACHER SHOULD BURN IN HELL

I dont think so, where i live there are very few caucasians actually (near LA) we are the minority and in my school there are 10 or 20 whites out of close to 4000 kids. We definately don't get an advantage, it's even harder for us to get into the same college as a Latino who worked just as hard as us because we are "white", even if out parents have the same income and all that. Well that is because school want a mixed variety of kids in schools but they should not base it on race in any circumstances (in my opinion) Anyways, to say the least, that is false in my hometown and i do not experience that in any way. Now, maybe for the whites who are rich that is a diffrent story.

It's a subtle thing but yes it's true. Think of it this way "Where we are depends greatly on where we start". Even if all prejudice and racism were eliminated we all are still products of and very much affected by our family history. The myth of the "self made man" is simply that a myth.

For instance if your great great grandfather went to college it increases the likelihood that your children will. Someone will no doubt spin out of control and argue that the past doesn't stop anyone from going to college. But that isn't what I wrote. It's about the status of the parent 'affecting' the status of the child and so on.

I don't think anyone can make an argument that the situation does not get better with every passing generation but the past does indeed affect the present. At some point if we can actually get to the point of having a true dialog on what we've been calling 'race' it might actually help us get past it.

However that dialog doesn't seem to ever get any closer. Prejudice and racism is overestimated by some and underestimated by others and we just can't get around to talking about it. It's the fault of the extremes on both sides.

I personally don't see white people as superior. I see them as being as equal to any other race. I love being Black and if I had to do it all over again, I'd choose Black.

Every race thinks their race is the best.

Now as far as certain advantages, I think whites get better advantages because a lot of the most prosperous people are white, and those are the folks that hire people for employment, for teams, for school, and more.

That's why there was once affirmative action, because all the best jobs, schools, and teams were choosing mostly whites even if there are Blacks with the same skills.
Why? Because the choosers are white.

So to a certain extent whites have better advantages. Not because they are superior, but because do to our history, whites got a head start!

As far as the dating world, has she experienced other races in the dating world and the night life? Has she been clubbing with other races? Has she gone out with other races? Where does she get her info from?

I think your teacher is wrong for saying it the way she did. If I were in your class, your teacher would have a LOT of explaining to do.

She's trying to push her opinion on you guys. She needs to teach self LOVE!
If you LOVE yourself, you then can love others and would see others as equal.

If you don't love yourself, then you try to pump yourself up by pushing others down!

Your teacher needs therapy. :~)

I'm not sure that would be true everywhere or in every aspect. Look at universities. I can think of a few other races who have so many university places over caucasions, that there's even been talk of limiting entries to them.

Dating? How would a caucasion have advantage over anyone else?

I will say that on trusting a stranger, I imagine that whites tend to trust other whites first. But isn't tht also pretty much true of any other race/creed/religion? The fact that as of now whites are majority in the US, it could certainly be disadvantageous to us different folks. Hmmm... also socio-economic statistics say that blacks and hispanics are poorer, and have poorer educational institutes.

Well I don't really know about in the dating world , but in the nightlife? I hate to say it, but white people aren't the most diverse dancers that I've seen.

As for the business world? Maybe, I would have to say so depending on the company's history and background in business decisions and practices.

But then what about affirmative action? Wouldn't that give some minorities an advantage over white people? Which is trying to level out this issue that we are talking about?

don't get the dating world advantages. Makes no sense to me.

Times are changing, but for the majority, people date within their own race, so the "advantages" in dating a black girl would go to the black guy and the other way around. And, this is a generalization that has been declining as years go by.

This is pure ignorance. Why even put this on the internet? Your teacher is a bigot, and whites have a slight advantage but they are no ways they superior. I could be worse than you and talk about white people stink when they get wet, their big noses, their flat asses, their ability to age like dogs, or the ignorance they sometimes possess. I am not going to do that, because I have tolerance and all of us came from god.

In the workplace, for the most part no, they are at a dissadvantage mainly due to affirmative action and frivalous law suits. Some companies, especially in areas with heavy minority saturation, its actually easier for the minority to get a job over white people due to possible racism lawsuits, and the need for affirmative action which in itself is a racist law.

In the dating world, no, why would white people have an advantage? If a black person went to a club where it was mainly white people, sure, they black person would be at a dissadvantage, but the same as a white person at a black club, they would be at a disadvantage. Dating is about personal preferance, i prefer white people and people of mixed heritage, where as my friend likes asians, and my other friend likes black people, its and my other friend likes anyone who gives him an ounce of attention...its all about preference when it comes to dating, and to say a race has an advantage over another in that area is stupid and uneducated. Sure there are people who dont date outside their race, but that goes for black people as well as white people and asians and hispanics etc, if anything hispanics and asians are at the disadvantage here because of strict family heritages while black and white people have been dealing with the mixed cultures a lot longer here in America. If you were to go by the number of programs to aid and assist people in attaining a better life, whites and asians are losing that battle, there are more programs for blacks, american indians, and hispanics than any race, indians, asians and whites. So depending on what you want to judge it on, whites are getting the short straw in many areas, but are still doing quite well despite that, as do asians and indians.

I think it's probably true only in the sense that racial issues are not brought up or thought of much. I don't think about the race issues or questions myself (I happen to be white) but then I don't have it thrust at me all the time. This might not be true of people who are racial minorities, I don't know for sure though.......

It all depends on how you look at it though - In todays modern culture, it's not considered "hip" to be a white male, but I myself don't really care, as I'm not into that stuff. I'm one guy who really wouldn't mind seeing a truly color-blind society, something like what the late Martin Luther King, Jr. talked about, where it really and truly wouldn't matter......
