Corporate and Excise taxes are not enough to pay for the expenses of the Republic. (See the link below for the full US Budget.) The groups included below each have their own budget.
Department of Agriculture
Department of Commerce
Department of Defense
Department of Education
Department of Energy
Department of Health and Human Services
Department of Homeland Security
Department of Housing and Urban Development
Department of the Interior
Department of Justice
Department of Labor
Department of State and Other Programs
Department of Transportation
Department of the Treasury
Department of Veterans Affairs
Corps of Engineers - Civil Works
Environmental Protection Agency
National Aeronautics and Space Administration
National Science Foundation
Small Business Administration
Social Security Administration
Other Agencies (including Postal Service, District of Columbia, National Archives, National Labor Relations Board, etc.)
The Sixteenth Amendment to the Constitution allows "The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration." "In the Penn Mutual Indemnity case, the United States Tax Court stated:
In dealing with the scope of the taxing power the question has sometimes been framed in terms of whether something can be taxed as income under the Sixteenth Amendment. This is an inaccurate formulation [ . . . ] and has led to much loose thinking on the subject. The source of the taxing power is not the Sixteenth Amendment; it is Article I, Section 8, of the Constitution."
You have to have money to make money.

In truth, it isn't. The income tax is a horrible method of taxation. It embeds costs in the prices of U.S. made products. Allows special interests to have tax breaks designed for their benefit. Destroys the incentive to work. Has created a giant and inefficient bureaucracy, (IRS), which doesn't collect a large portion of the taxes due anyway. Not to mention that they can look into anything private about our personal lives. For a better alternative go to: www.fairtax.org.

Federal taxes are used to keep this country running. The government disperses the tax dollars as THEY see fit. That's why it is important to VOTE!!!

EDIT:
You can ignore the person who says to watch the Aaron Russo 'documentary', "America: Freedom to Fascism". It is full of falsehoods and misconceptions. If you do waste your time watching it, make a note of every point he brings up and then go to
Article in NY Times about how wrong it is.

BTW, anytime someone references a Circuit court or Supreme Court decision, look it up for yourself. Many times, tax protestors will take words and phrases out of context so it will seem it supports their deluded view of the tax laws.
You can read most of these opinions for yourself at http://www.findlaw.com You will have to register as a law professional, but it is free. However, I must warn you, many Supreme Court decisions are quite lengthy.
