Because non-believers think that we are unable to think for ourselves.
We use scripture as our measuring stick.....the truth.
All the education in the world will not save a person's eternal soul........only a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ can do that.

I would say it's because it is the ignorant, loud-spoken Christians who get the most attention because they're just so hard to ignore. I think there have been many great Christian thinkers and writers and educated Christians who have done great things in this world, but for some reason people ignore those and point straight at Westboro Baptist as an example of Christianity.
Plus, while most Christians don't have a problem with evolution, it's the ones who pitch a fit and try to get creationism taught in schools who get all the attention and press.

Most people are uneducated. They were educated by the government, after all. Christians have the reputation of being uneducated, because most are partiality educated by their churches (which typically have roughly the same low to medium quality of education as schools).
The thing is, a Ph.D holder is going to look at debates between most theists and atheists (just to bring up an example) as the most laughable things he's ever seen, regardless of his personal opinion. The "unwashed masses" are uneducated.

Well
1)Some of it is just prejudice spread by the media ( i hate it when atheists ask a question criticisin christianity, recieve a reasonable, rational, inteligent awnser and ignore it, it happens a LOT here on R&S and other places too).
This dumb christian stereotipe is very spread on society, and its wrong...
2)Christians have their share of blame in it. The theory of inteligent design is the biggest apologetic mistake since the midlle ages. Not only that, some christian stuck with a deeply religious legalist and ritualistic view on christianism, which i believe is very bad

my opinion is that even the most educated people turn off all logic and reasoning when it comes to religion/faith. You find that they do not know about the origin of their faith or really much else about their faith outside the bible (which in real life no one will validate a source without checking an outside source). Anyway my point is that no matter how educated someone is, when it comes to religion/faith, they choose to remain uneducated. It is more likely that the uneducated are people of faith because they do not come in contact with contradicting events and theories as often as the educated

the rise in Catholicism in the 19th century can be directly attributed to the influx of immigrants from Ireland, Poland, and Italy. These people weren't called the "wretched refuse" for no reason.
Generally, though, non-believers can't understand why an otherwise intelligent person would choose the beliefs and the faith of a believer, so they place an arbitrary label upon them to make themselves feel better.

I think it's because many Christians really are uneducated, at least about Christianity. They don't know the history of the Bible or where it came from. They don't know who began their churches or when. They don't know about the beginnings of Christianity or church history.
Many just accept what is told to them and never take the time to study on their own. That's why there are tens of thousands of denominations, people following false doctrines, and so many misconceptions about the Catholic Church.
It does make Christians seem ignorant when so many of them don't know much about their own religion. But the truth of Christ's church is out there and readily available for study, as well as the history of Christendom. God bless.

Because those that settle into debate with they that oppose their own viewpoints naturally seek those with the least chance of success. Picking out the weakest of the herd, if you will. No offense, but I don't get a whole lot of debate to many of my questions. Moreover, when I do, it is usually from an obviously insightful atheist who only attempts to counter what I have said, just as I try and do.

Because many Christians (I am primarily referring to those in Latin America) are what we would consider "uneducated" this is not because they are naturally stupid, but simply because they do not have a chance to receive a good education. Also I think the correlation between intelligence and faith, is more of a correlation between wealth and faith. If you look at Christianity it is a religion that gives hope to the poor and is difficult for the wealthy to follow. Thus, many wealthy people turn away.

it's a stereotype. I'm in law school. i don't think i could be uneducated and have gotten this far especially without help from God. i think that it just makes someone else feel better to put other people down. i guess that's the definition of a bully. i honestly think it takes more education, a open heart and also a open mind to seek God, to read the bible and also to study the bible. I'm very educated and open minded. it takes a close minded person to go out of their way and disrespect people just to make their day better.

Because the reputation that was given to us was made by uneducated people. My mom is a PROUD christian/jehovah's witness and she's a LAWYER!!!
I am also a proud christian/Jehovah witness and i am going to one of the best high schools in my city. I passed my test with the highest math and science percentile in the school, 99th percentile in science the highest possible score, top 1 percentile and 96th in math and 92 nd reading and I hope to go to princeton, yale, or harvard.
Besides Everyone is educated differently, personally I think that one should be judged not on their education alone, but their character, and wisdom. and How DARE you call us that as a whole. i can say tons of things about atheists but I won't , just shows my character!
