I want to go see a band with a group of friends at the Bowery Ballroom (6 Delancy St) in NYC. I brought the idea up with my mom to ask permission and she said it would be great if it wasn't a "bad neighboorhood" so I want to know is it really?

Absolutely not...your mom is just being over protective. Crime is down 9.44% from last year and down over 63% from 14 years ago.

Thirty years ago the area was super dangerous (probably when your mom used to go there). But today Delancy Street is in the rapidly gentrifying Lower East Side that is getting full of white hippies. That being said, if you're a small female, it's probably wise to go with a big group of people and not hang out on the street.

Only 30 years ago, the Lower East Side was known as Bum Alley. You had junkies and prostitutes living in the burned out buildings along Rivington, Orchard, and Delancy Streets. Today, it's an upscale neighborhood with trendy stores, restaurants, and nightclubs. Today it's safe, yet still use caution.

Its not a bad area at all.
Is not the hippiest neighboorhood in the city, but its safe.
No need to worry.
The subway its right there, so you wont even need to wonder around getting to the place.

i stay in a good community. have lived proper interior the middle of small city and no authentic neighbooors and that i've got 2 water towers on 2 facets and the neightbors are so a procedures its useful i own a million/2 lot small city its useful and prefer it.

The Lower East Side now has upscale restaurants, clubs, and stores. With all these people visiting the area, there isn't much crime here.
