Wake up . .. CHRISTians have been dying for centuries being mocked and ridiculed. There have been more martyrs for CHRIST in the 20th Century than at any other time in history . .. These cozy little protestants who think they are mocked are not being mocked they are experiencing the righteousness of the LORD . .. and those being mocked are the TRUE believers who are today dying for their faith . ..
-LOVE your neighbor as yourself.
Amen.

Yes, completely. The Bible was heavily edited by the Romans when they adopted Christianity, the original message is quite different to the one we see today. For example, it does not state at any point that there is only one God, but rather that the Hebrew God is the best one.
When the Romans took up Christianity, they did so to try to save their dying empire, uniting it under a single faith and placing Rome at the head of it. It was a power grab, and they were clever enough to make it a very good one - it seems very likely that they knew that even the philosophers of the time would see through it all.

Both the Old and New Testements were written in times of serious persecution. Not just for Jews and Christians. People were thrown to the lions or stoned for basically nothing.
To understand the context of any writing, it makes sense to understand the life and times of the people. Say, for example, you want to understand a story by Shakespere. You might want to know a little about what life was like in the times of Shakespere.
For the record, I don't go along with the idea that Christians are persecuted in America. I don't dislike or fault them. But let's get real. Where exactly do you see them being persecuted?

Oh, but it's not crap. It's the Truthâ¢. It is, it is. And if we say it enough, then we won't know how to think otherwise. That's how the brain works, reinforcing pathways. Paul was a brilliant marketer.

Brilliant.
I know if I ever invented a preposterous belief system that I would have a self-saving immunity feature built in where the fool is infallibly correct and the sensible are twisted and ignorant.

Probably. They also added clauses on "don't test God" and "don't doubt God" and "you'll go to Hell if you do" through the mouth of the Jesus character for the same reasons. Any rational skepticism about a badly-written book of unicorns and pyschopathic deities? No, no, no, that'll be punished with a lake of fire, you know.

No. And it's true isn't it. It happens here all the time. I guess we'll see who's right and who's wrong. I wouldn't want to be you. Eternity is too long to be wrong.
