I wanted to know the truths about the army reserves pros and cons...im sure even though its reserves he will get deployed so how long till that happens? what will be the time frames were i wont see him, when will i be able to see him? any information or people who have been in the army reserves who could help me would be great.

my husband is in the military active duty... Yes it is true that you can go to school while serving which is awsome!!! my husband wants to go to school but being active he cant because of the unit he is in. another good thing about being reserve is the fact that they are home more than active!! that to me is a plus, you BF will eventually get deployed, some do get deployed right out of AIT others it take up to a year. the one thing you have to know about the military life as a gf//fiance//wife you life will revolve around " hurry up and wait" the deployment will come out of no where and you will be going up and down on dates!!! one day its aug. next thing you know it's tomorrow!!! deployment is no joke, the person above me is right if you dont see your relationship growing to something more end it. it will save so much heart ache but on the other hand if you do see it growing or you guys still remain friends BE THERE FOR EACH OTHER!!! support is the major key weither he wants to join or not!!!
deployment times always change things are never SET IN STONE!! my nephew was suppose to be back in march now he wont be back till jan he will be out in iraq for 2 yrs. stay in touch with ppl from the same company to get as much info as you can. plus you can always go and talk to the recurter your self!!! hell i did!!
no matter what his choice is you both will get this since of pride that not all ppl get to have. as a wife of a soldier it's the best feeling in the world plus the hardest thing YOU WILL EVER DO!!! but even after it all i would NEVER CHANGE IT!! i stand strong next to my husband and support him!! if you just want someone to talk to contact me... good luck sweetie!!

Ok first off just because he joins the military does not mean he is going to be deployed. Now it might still happen dont get me wrong. i was out of training for 6 months when i left for Iraq but joining the military does not mean you have to be deployed. I know lots of people who are in the military and have never been deployed. The pros of the reserves are that he can get his education paid for while serving. He also gets an extra pay check every month. He gets trained for whatever skill he chooses Also a pro for being in the military is that he gets to serve his country. The con is that he can be called away at anytime to go anywhere. Its just something you have to learn to live with when dealing with the military....

He could get deployed right out of basic and AIT (the shcool you go to after basic) I am in the reserves and think if you want to join the army the reserves are the best. Normaly you only train one weekend a month and two weeks a year. However you can get deployed with training and everything that ends up being about a year and a half you are gone. They were talking about extending the tour when I left Iraq (about 2mos ago) so it could be longer now

Alot of reservists get activated and sent to other posts around the world to fill in for deployed soldiers. There is also the chance that his unit will be deployed, which at this rate is about every 4 yrs for reservists. Pro, he can get trained in a field he can transfer into a civilain job. He'll also get money for college. If he isn't planning on doing one of those 2 options, I wouldn't reccomend joining, since he won't be making hardly any money, and risks being deployed.

ask him what he wants out of life..... if he truly loves you (ie want to someday marry you) and feels the army is absolutely where he needs to be then you two are in for some hard, but doable, times
you wont see him A LOT. Basic and tech school take a lot of time and deployments for the Army reserve can take up to a year.
if you dont plan on marrying him one day, then now is the time to break things off....
EDIT:
in response to possibly not getting deployed: While of course you might not get deployed, in most cases, its not your choice. SO if you join the armed forces be ready to serve, not just if it convenient, and EXPECT to be deployed so it doesnt come as a shock

The one thing you are not hearing here is, he can go to school on the GI BIll but he can alsoget his legs blown off or find himself int the horrible position many soldiers have and that's being injured and having to depend on a government that see's you as a used up laibility.
Once he signs those papers honey, your and his life is literally just a flip of a coin and the coin ranges all the way from Death, to an experience he wouldn't trade for the world.

As a member of the reserves, he will be subject to recall whenever the need arises. As many now are experiencing, that recall can be for more than a year at times.

Right now the reserves are deployed more often than active duty. If he wants to do it tell him to go active better benefits and pay.
