You sure can and most likely will, dear. I'm surprised you don't know this. Did you study as a JW? I quit them when I was 12 and I still remember the drills. Got baptized in another church coz I refused to believe the JWs have it "right" and are "the only perfect" organized religion.

Details would help us to answer you better.

Back when I was a JW and my dad was beating my mother regularly and terrorizing our household, it was taught that only mates who are married to unbelievers may divorce. Then it changed to married to unbelievers and also being beaten and/or cheated on (your category?) Now it has changed to not being provided for in a satisfactory manner (financially), unbeliever or not, cheated on, beaten, etc. One person will be shunned and the other they find to be doing right will not be.

You don't have to put up with abuse, not even in your religion, but be careful coz he could say you're a liar and then YOU would be the one ostracized. They will do an "investigation" of course. And do you even want to stay a JW if they will say you have to stay with a beater when you don't want to?

Jehovah's Witnesses do not believe the bible to teach that getting divorced (even for a trivial reason) is a "serious sin" such as could result in disfellowshipping.

Jehovah's Witnesses make no secret that they believe the bible to plainly allow divorce in the case of adultery, and they believe that bible principles seem to tolerate a practical and legal separation in the cases of abuse, willful non-support, and endangerment.

Anti-Witness activists may wish to consider pages 20-30 of the November 1, 1988 issue of The Watchtower (nearly twenty years ago now).

No because I am a Jehovah's Witness and I divorced my husband and no i was not disfellowshipped. I kept going to my meetings, I kept going out in service, etc eventually my husband married an unbeliever and left. I got remarried to a wonderful fellow Jehovah's Witness and my wedding was in the Kingdom Hall. My ex husband was abusive as well.

YES. Ask my sister. She did the EXACT same thing. Unless he cheated on you then you very well may be cast out . Best move I ever made was never going back to that cult. So if you are cast out, rejoice in the freedom of being an actual human being. You really have no idea how much better life is out of that cult. It may be hard at first but in the long run, at least you get to live again.Edited to add: BOY OH BOY do you know how many others are in your situation? So many sisters are beat and NO ONE knows. As a human being you need to take care of that situation. As a woman, a witness or not, you NEED to get out of that situation. You deserve NOTHING of that caliber. I am apprised of so many situations when sisters just stay and take beating after beating from their Elder or Servant husbands. IT IS NOT WORTH STAYING ONE MORE MINUTE IN THAT SITUATION. Get out and get out now. (side note*what a f-in pu**y of a man. woo big man, hitting on a lady! If you live near me I would help you out of that situation as I have done before with others*)
