The way to DVD ripper works is to "play" the DVD and then re-record it on your PC. So there is no ripper which can rip a DVD in less then the length of time it takes to play it.

However, if your PC is low on memory and/or hard drive space, it may take longer then the length of the DVD. It is not not a different burner that will resolve the issue, but adding more memory and hard drive space.

DVD shrink. Just go to http://www.mrbass.org/dvdshrink/
to download it. On top of the page is a link for the download.
In order to burn the dvd to a cd though you also need nero. For me a dvd rip usually takes about 30min to 1 hour!!

you won't gain a *lot* of time regardless of which software you use, the majority of them can only run slightly faster than the length of the movie because they play the entire thing through then rip it as it goes.
