Why do Christians spend so much time arguing about "non-Christian" things? It seems they take a lot of their time trying to put down and convince people that Christianity is right...

ETA: Guess I should have read the other responses first... =)

I don't argue about Christian things. As far as I'm concerned, anyone can believe or not whatever way they want to. I don't think Christianity is "wrong". It's right for the people who embrace it.

I can't speak for all atheists, because I know some of us are just too playful or pissed-off by the actions of the religious right-wingers who are running this country, and they're taking it out on xians here. But I only add my 2-cents when someone is asking "why god didn't help them" or "how can this be if god loves me" or is addressing the "non-christians" like you just did. Because, I know what I believe and what I don't. And if someone feels better about their place in existence by believeing in one mythology or another, that's fine with me, as long as they don't take their "scriptures" and compose laws from them that everyone has to live by regardless of what they believe. I am here to ask questions and share what I know with those who ask, not to preach.

Here's my opinion. They feel like they have the "truth" that they have to tell to everyone. In my opinion, there are a lot of atheists on this board that are trying to convert people to atheism. It's funny, because they always accuse Christians of trying to convert people, but I rarely see that happening here. In most cases on this board, it's atheists trying to convert people to atheism.

I agree that they should just leave us alone. If they're right about the world, then what we believe shouldn't matter. If they're right, then the we all will die and that's it. We all have the same fate in the end, so nothing we do here matters. If that's true, then why should they stop us from believing what we want? If it gives us hope and meaning in our lives, isn't that a good thing? Why would you want to take hope away from a person?

Why do you think you have free reign? I spend time on Y!A to temper fantastical statements (not just Christian) in the effort of making the world a better and more truthful place. Why should I sit by and allow you to spew your unsubstantiated ideas unchallenged? It's balanced fairness.

Some nutty idea about Christians ruining their lives or the world or some such silly thing. What a waste of time! But I guess with that much time to spare...

Maybe it's just fun. Or maybe a lot of atheists used to be christian and are trying to help a brotha' or sista' out.
