You have to ASK? Usually I have a hard enough time getting Mormons to NOT talk to me about their religion.
Anyway, try here:

First remember that it was his choice to go and it is also his choice to stay. He can come home if he wants too, but to remain a missionary he has to stay focused and sacrifice his time. I served a two-year mission (and if it has been two years, he should be home soon) and I did all the same things. I called my family twice a year (Christmas and Mother's Day) and no one else. I wrote them every week. Some missionaries are allowed to email, but that depends on the local leadership where they are. (BTW the letters aren't opened or read by anyone in the Church) It was a great experience for me. You should be able to recognize him when he gets back. Two years isn't that long. When he does get back I'm sure he'll have a lot to talk about.

hes probably just on a mission, and if this is the case he will be home soon
they are basically christians, but they believe in an additional book to the bible called the book of morman, which was given to them via joseph smith.
and in regards to the brainwashing, they will only be brainwashing him just as much as any other organised religion would

The Mormon Church was founded by a hick farmer in 1805..called Joseph Smith..he is supposed to have found two gold tablets and an opaque one which would help him decipher the gold ones. From that came the Book of mosiah which is similar to Isaiah in the Bible..which Joseph is supposed to have dictated from behind a curtain to a 'scribe'
Joseph Smith was put in prison for immorality and counterfeiting but the people of the town broke into the jail and killed him.........Joseph and his brother Hiram both went to the 33rd degree of the freemasons in one day....that says it all for me........the masons are taking over the world slowly......and we don't always know what they are actually into.
The members of that church are taught to be devout to their religion which is a pseudo -Christianity....and has some heretic beliefs. There is a good book about the Mormons called 'Mormonism A Gold Plated Religion' please get it and have a read...and sorry if you are worried about your friend...he has new friends now to the exclusion of his old ones who do not believe the same as he does.
Best wishes, Mike.
PS The Mormons are NOT Christians.

Stephen, when young men and women go on their two-year missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints there exists certain restrictions placed upon them. They must stay focused on their mission for God and avoid all else that could distract, such as television, movies, dates, of course, and even phone calls and letters from home.
They are allowed to write home, but telephone calls are limited. If you value this missionary as a friend, then keep him in your thoughts and have faith that he will reciprocate.
For a better understanding about the Church consider logging on to www.mormon.org and explore the sites.

He is on a mission. Why don't you ask him on his letter. They do get phone calls to their relatives only.It is very interesting as you seem, so when he does return you may want to sit with him to talk about how his mission in Scotland went, he will recognize you and you will have plenty of time to catch up on you friendship. So just be a true friend and keep writing to him. There is no brainwashing, he is just devoted to accomplishing his mission for himself and to God.Haven't you ever served the Lord? You should try it.

Your friend might be on a missionary mission for 2 years, he will be back when he is done. You should ask his family about how you can contact him.
Here the belief:
1 WE believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
2 We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression.
3 We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
4 We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
5 We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.
6 We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
7 We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.
8 We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
9 We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
10 We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.
11 We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
12 We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
13 We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.
JOSEPH SMITH.

Adding to wahnotes' list they also believe that after Jesus' resurrection he went to America contrary to what the Bible says "As he was blessing them he was parted from them and began to be borne up to heaven" Luke24:51.
