I really don't know. Plastics, when used in packaging, are terrible for the environment.
1 - They are made from oil, which causes a lot of pollution to pump from the bottom of the ocean.
2 - Plastics take 200-400 years to break down in ideal conditions; in landfills even longer.
3 - Sure plastics can be "recycled", but plastics do not recycle like other things do. Each plastic item is made from different resins. To recycle, those resins must be separated, which is very difficult to do. In the end, about 30% or less of the original product can actually be reused. In addition, most times oil prices are low enough that it would be cheaper for companies to just buy virgin materials rather than recycled ones. When that happens, most recycling plants just throw away the plastics they recive.

A better option for packaging would be aluminum or glass. 99% of aluminum can be reused after recycling and 95% of glass can be reused. Also, reuseable glass bottles just need to be washed, so they are completely recycleable.

By all means plastic, it takes forever to decompose. If the pilgrims used six packs the plastic rings from back then would still be around today. Nearly 89% of all marine litter is plastic as well, of the 115 species of marine mammals, 49 species are known to become entangled in and/or ingest marine litter. The worst part is that the plastic does not go away after it kills an animal no once the animal dies and decompose the plastic is alive and kicking, meaning the same piece of plastic that killed that cute little birdie over there well do it again. Not only that marine litter that is plastic absorbs toxins so when it is ingested it also poisons the animals as well. It is estimated that there is over 46,000 pieces of plastic litter floating on every square mile of ocean today. It takes about 450 years just for one plastic bottle to break down in the ground! Americans use 2.5 million plastic bottles every HOUR. An average 323 plastic bags are taken into our homes every year and it takes 500 years to decay when sent to landfill. A plastic milk jug takes 1 million years to decompose. A plastic cup can take 50 - 80 years to decompose.

They get away with a lot of things! They haven't "banned" plastic ~ yet. They want people to recycle it, so that it can be used over and over again. That is the object of recycling. But, if everybody doesn't participate in this, than its not going to go anywhere. A lot of money goes into the recycling business also. Its a no win situation.

Blame the idiots who finish a soda and just throw it on the ground, or in the trash, and not recycle it properly

Question: Do you buy anything that comes packaged in plastic? It's not the companies that are to blame ... it's the consumers that demand it.
