If a company steadily amasses information about a particular market segment, their demographics, likes, dislikes, purchasing trends etc, to whom can that company sell that intelligence?

to any company that might benefit from that data by directing their marketing efforts to the groups that are most likely to respond and buy the products or services offered.

Typically the consumer has signed away any data protection rights they may have had when applying for the loyalty card etc... so in theory they could sell the data to "anyone" ..

But those MOST interested would be their direct competiotors .. so why should they sell data that gives them a competative advantage ???

Its a LOT more use to them to "target" junk email at the consumer ...

Car insurance companies, life insurance, house insurance, financial services, double glazing, cavity wall insulation, heating engineers, gas companies, health foods and medicines .... the list is endless as all sellers of services or goods has a market with consumers.
