I went to florida for 5 days. My sister in law stayed at my home to take care of my Puggle. (1/2 pug, 1/2 beagle)
I left instructions to feed her 1 cup of food in the morning and 1 cup at night. We use a measuring cup to scoop her dog food. Well, when we got back from our trip, my dog was three times the size she was when we left.
She was feeding her the entire measuring cup of food morning and night. 5 cups per day!!
My dog has diarreah, but seems to be alright. We are cutting her food to 1/2 cup,twice a day to get her back to normal.
I am thankful that her little stomach did not explode! My sister in law has watched her several times in the past, I guess she forgot how to feed her!
I am still worried about my dog. It has been a day since we have been back, should I still be worried? Or just keep her on the diet until she gets back to normal....
Thanks

I think you are worrying too much about how much your dog eats. She is fine. She will only eat as much as she needs. Don't put her on a diet. Just free-feed her and let her regulate herself. We already have a bunch of anorexic teens in society, we don't need to transfer that disease to dogs too. Do you think that dogs in the wild measure out food and worry about going on a diet?

dog should be fine -- if you have any concerns take her to the vet. Sounds like she might be bloated if you notice a huge difference in size -- 5 days should not have caused her to gain much weight no matter what she ate. Some people free feed their dogs all their lives with no ill effect. I wouldn't cut her back to less than she should get. I also wouldn't feed her at all for 24 hours if she has diarreah -- there's great articles on dog diarreah and what to do if it is serious.

By the way your dog is a mutt -- there is no suh thing as a Puggle lol.

That is a good idea, cut down on food and take your dog for walks regular!

Do what you're doing and she should be fine. Cut back on treats too while you're getting her back to normal. All the best;~}
