I mean are all these names are in English or Spanish? this means anglos got there, settled, spoke their language and refused to speak the local language? so why are you angry when Mexicans do the same. and ofcourse...the anglos settled Illegally there..Mexico did not grant permission for so many families to stay...and It was Mexican. so on what moral basis do you demand something that you didnt bother to do yourself as history shows?

Richard, your knowledge of history is non existant...MExico invited americans to settle just as yu invited Mexicans in the 70s, you invited some thousands..millions came..well mexico invited dozens of families...hundreds came. The territoeries were not ceded, they were stolen. Texas asked for its independence because of american influence..just as if texas asked for its independence today because of a majority of illegal mexicans and their descendants. Native americansand spanish settlers mixed, creating what is today the mexicans. Anglos did not mix with local natiave americans...they just masacred them....mexicans sepak the language of their ancestors...since they are a mixed race.

Since when did English become the OFFICIAL (legal) language of the USA??

While true, I think most people should try to speak and understand english if they are out and about in public mingling with english speakers, BUT, if they are out and about surrounded by Spanish speakers or at home by them, then all means speak Spanish or whatever language is being spoken.

Everyone needs to make an effort to communicate with others. No matter how much their english or Spanish or German or whatever sucks. Maybe if we didnt make people feel stupid for pronouncing something wrong or with an accent they would try more.

How do you know the anglos didnt learn to speak spanish? Were you there? Mexico lost the war and the lands. Now it is United States land and English is the language. Come live in the present and quit using the past to try to justify what is happening now.

We, in America are language snobs, I have to agree.

However; English is the "international" language. A German friend once told me: "If I am on vacation in Italy, and I meet a French friend; we are most likely to speak to each other in English rather than in German, French, or Italian."

True, Americans should learn and respect other languages. On the other hand though, Spanish speakers can benefit from learning to communicate in English; not only because it is the only official language of the continental U.S., but also because it is the international language.

Otherwise aren't Spanish speakers guilty of the same "snobbery" of which you accuse English speakers?

I'm not certain as to your rambling rant. Sure some of the areas you mention are SPANISH names. So what? California, for example, was originally settled by Spain. (BTW, Pasadena was from an Indian word, not Spanish.)

I'm not certain want your point is because, based on history, Mexico has nothing to do with things. It was Spain. Besides, this is America!

The cities you reference are in present day United States. Our national language is English. History not withstanding, the expectation is that the residents speak English, like it or not. As we are a free country, the exit doors are always open to residents who seek to live in a Spanish speaking country.

As you reference history (just one example of many) you will note that the native language in parts of present day Germany was Polish. German is spoken there now. Get over it.

Take some history classes. I am original from a Latin American country and I don't never will demand such thing.
Here is the US of American and English is the national language.

A second language is a choice.
I choose 6 languages in total.
But in US I have to speak and write English.

LOL, Is like saying to Mexicans, Central Americans, South americans to speak Aztec, Mayan etc. You name it, Do they?
Kind silly question.
Go study history it will help you out.

Your knowledge of history is weak. Mexico invited Americans to emigrate to Texas, for example, only to have it backfire when the new Texans decided they wanted an independent Texas. For each of those places you mention, possession of the territory was ceded to the U.S. Naturally, English became the language of the land.
By the way, why don't Mexicans speak Mayan or Aztec? Weren't those the languages of the people when Mexico was "illegally" settled by the Spanish?
Incidentally, I have no objection to whatever language people wish to speak at home. I do, however, believe English ought to be the official language of the United States.

P.S. - Tejas and Arizona are Native American words (Hasinai and Aztec, respectively), not Spanish.

Well, I can understand your point. Do you speak the native language? My family speaks Mi'kmaq, along with French and English. No one bothered to learn my families Native American language when they came over on the Mayflower, so, my family had to adapt to speak with those around them.

Why didn't I learn it? Please! These places were bought and sold long before you and I ever lived. All of those places are in the USA now, in case you didn't know. So learn OUR language! For god sake! Did you go back in the time and survey everyone to see who spoke Spanish?
