Since you asked about the rocks, I'm going to assume you don't care about road manners.
Goodyear MT/R is a good tire on rocks, bad in mud
BF Goodrich Rock Krawler T/A Tires are obviously made for rocks, never used them, but hear good things.
The Maxxis Creepy Crawler has gotten great reviews on the rocks - tons of guys like them, and you can find them at pretty good prices, check E-Bay
You can read reviews of just about ever tire under the sun here:

It depends on a number of factors. The size for instance depends on the amount of lift you have. If you are going to do serious rock crawling I would recommend BF Goodrich Krawler T/A KX. They are expensive but dont come any better. If you intend to drive on the highway and want more reliable road behavior you can get the BF Goodrich MT which is available in many sizes and a good bit cheaper than the Krawler. The MT is going to a tread pattern similar to the Krawler in the not too distant future.

We put Tractor Tires on our toys. They have a lot of grip and lots of Plies. Also they have an Inner Tube that easy to patch. They are not for burning rubber, they for mud and rocks. In mud we "Throw the Conoco" to it to unload the mud, on rocks we move slow but steady. Real fun! :-D
This is really a total off-road, though they work on the street, slow.
If, you not understand; "Throwing the Conoco" go here, all the guys love 'Ethyl' she fun too. ;-)

Not sure how to spell it, but a jeep owner said Mickey Thompsons. They've been around a long time.
