I haven't taken it, so I can't answer your question. I'm responding, however, because I found a link that you might find of interest. When you take any medication, it's good to know as much about it as you can, especially the "side effects."

Hi,

i took fluoxetine (prozac) for approx 7 weeks but because of the severness of depression etc my doc weaned me off it as she wants to try something else, as it was not working for me, however that does not mean it won't work for you. the only side effects i felt were nausea, tiredness and teh odd headache for the first too weeks but that is normal for a lot of people, however you could be different, better or worse, but your doctor should be monitoring you. Fluoxetine is one of teh first antidepressants they try on most people, so don't worry you are one of millions on it! infact there has been debates about doctors percribing it too much. Fluoxetine can take only 2 weeks for some people to feel the effect, others say 6 weeks and some people have reported it taking up to 3 months so unfortunately there is no black and white answer but keep your doctor informed, don't be afraid to say they are not working or if they are making you have strange side effects or making the depression worse (if thats what you are taking it for) It can be given for bulimia also.

everyone is different but i hope it works for you

best of luck
xxx

I personally haven't but my mate has been suffering from clinical depression from an early age an has recently started a course of Prozac. She says it is helping a lot, helping with the day to day an what not. Improving personall outlook etc. As with any SSRI meds though, YOU need to want it to work, its only going to compliment the change YOU want to make. Also most of them take a good few weeks before you will notice any difference.

Hope this helped

Hello
I took it about 10 years ago, for about 18 months. I remember it taking about 2 weeks to kick in, and even then the improvement was gradual, it wasn't like i woke up one day and suddenly felt better, but I think in the long run it did help.
You also need to stay on it for longer than you think. I felt a lot better after 6 months or so, but after stopping taking it realised I wasn't ready. Also come off it slowly, I started with taking it every other day, then half a tab every other day etc.

Yeah. It's also known as Prozac and it is a SSRI (Selective Seratonin Reuptake Inhibitor). There are about 4 different types of anti-depressant, and SSRIs are just one of them.

Different people react differently to different types of anti-depressant, because we all have a unique body chemistry of our own. Personally, Prozac never did anything for me, good or bad. I might as well have taken Smarties. I have a male friend who found he couldnt get erections when he was taking Prozac. But I do know other people it has helped. You wont know how it will affect you until you try it.

any antidepressant is only half the solution. They are NOT "happy pills". If you do not also participate in your own mental health by seeking out therapy along with those medications, you will not improve over the long term.
Fluoxetine (Prozac) will help you to think more clearly, and it can take four to six weeks to build a level in your body so you notice a difference....but without therapy to help you deal with the root causes of your depression, it isn't going to make you any happier.

Lots of people use this medication and it works well. Since it is used for depression most people stay on the med if it works for them as depression is treatable but doesn't really ever go away. You may have times in your life when you don't notice any depression but it is still there.

All it gave me was a dry mouth, cant say that it made me feel any better. I was on it for 18months or so. Fluoxetine (prozac) affects different people in different ways.

It changed my life, improved it massively, but I haven't been able to come off it for 1 and a half years now. Don't care though, I feel good. Took about 2 months to work properly
