*Board games like Candy Land. Remember that they may not be ready for a lot of rules yet.
*Use unit blocks to build something and talk about the sizes and shapes of the blocks. Give the kids rulers and encourage measuring behaviors.
*Play memory games. You could use the official game, or make your own cards using simple pictures of tools and safety gear that the kids have seen their parents use.
*Play What's Missing using construction related items like a screwdriver, a large bolt, a nail, safety glasses, etc. Place the items on a tray and ask the kids to look carefully. Then cover the tray and remove one item from it, and ask the kids to figure out what's missing.
*Use small manipulatives to play simple games like ask the child to give you 2 bears, now 4 bears. Wow! You got it! Can you give me 5?
*Get some big cardboard boxes and make a pretend construction site. Let the kids use markers, paper and glue to build a house, or a building. Whatever they want to make it.

3 to 5 is a little young for addition and subtraction. You start beginning addition and subtraction towards the middle of kindergarten. Early math concepts typically involve patterns, counting and sorting. Do a circle time with calender and you count the days by pointing to each number on the calendar, add a straw for each day they are in school and count the straws. Songs, music and arts and crafts are also great ways to work on early number concepts.
