Honestly, your kitty will let you know what she likes and does not like.
I adopted a kitty a few weeks ago and I bought her little mice laced with catnip (she LOVES those), some yarn balls (not as interested), a squeaky ball that bounces (not all that keen on it)....
I then bought her some $0.77 shoe laces (she LOVES these too), crumpled up an old piece of paper (likes the noise, puts it in her mouth and runs all over with it), and a little furry creature that moves on his own when you pull his tail (doesn't too much care for it), I was wrapping a present the other day and she HAD to have some of the ribbon. I her a long piece of it and she treasures that thing!
I've found that my Madeline is highly entertained by the simple things in life. Some cats are just the opposite. I'd say, buy a variety of things and see what she likes. Just don't break your bank. When she shows you what she'll play with, get more of that.
Good luck!
:-)

You should get a little ball with a bell inside. Those drive them out of their ever-loving little minds. Also, get a little kitten fishing pole. You can make these at home. Go and get a stick, and tie a little string to it. I would not reccomend putting a real feather on there, because it might contain some sort of virus. The other choice is catnip. I must warn you though, that makes them go wild! That is w-i-l-d wild! I hope you have fun with your kitten!

Different cats enjoy different toys. I have one cat who loves anything with feathers on it and another cat who loves mice with bells on them. Get a few toys that are different and see which ones that your kitten prefers. I really like the toys that are on a "fishing rod" type pole with a string it saves your hands from the kitten claws.

You don't need to buy toys, really. They'll play with absolutely anything.
I've found that soda boxes are great toys for them. Roll up some paper, and they'll chase it around. Fill a sock with catnip. If you have craft supplies laying around, use a puffball. String is a favorite too - especially if there's something hanging on the end for them to chase around.

anything you find at the pet store. It will depend on what your kitty likes. I have had a lot of luck with feathered toys, and laser pointers. Avoid putting them in Kitty's eye's though.

My kittens loved this toy i got at walmart, it's called the Krinkle n Punch (i think), i'm not quite sure.. it has a red square base and three toys hanging that are very bright and fun for them. It's cheap and the red base makes a krinkle noise that my kittens love!

you don't have to buy any toys, as the cat won't play with them. Here are my cat's favourite toys:
-piece of paper, crumpled up into a ball
-feather (you can find these outside, anywhere)
-plastic bottle cap
-toilet paper tube
-string (but supervise the cat with this one)
-laser pointer (she will chase that dot for hours!)
-keys, pens, change and anything else she finds around the house.

There are lots of things. Just buy her a wide variety of toys. They are cheap for the most part. Different cats like different things, but generally they tend to be a little picky. My cat for instance doesn't like balls. I got him one and he totally ignored it. My cat tends to like toys I can dangle in front of him and he can paw at. He also likes one he can push around the floor, like those toy mice.
Your gonna find yourself throwing out a few toys since they totally ignore some of them.
Like someone pointed out, they like to play with totally random things sometimes too. LIke my cat likes to play around with bottle caps.
