A nice picture frame for them to put a christening picture in would be easy and inexpensive. But even better would be a savings bond.

Why would you want to give a non religious gift at a religious event? The purpose of a christening is a religious event and the gift should reflect that event.
However there are an assortment of gifts to give that are non religious such as gift cards IE (Wal Mart,Target,Best Buy)

I am in the same situation. I recently read a neat idea. Give the baby a nice collection of literature that has "immortal" meaning. Maybe the poetry of Maya Angelou or T.S. Elliot or Shakespeare or even Thoreau. I think I'm taking this route, since we're the god parents and we're spiritual not religious. We'll try to communicate our belief in the good of humanity without being heavy handed. Hope this helps.

Money may be appropriate. A piggy bank with a few coins inside may also be a nice choice.
I have purchased a music box that played lullabies for baptism gifts.

It used to be traditional to give a christening mug/tankard made of pewter or silver. You could always give them a collection of books by a classic childrens author such a Beatrix Potter that they could in turn pass on to their children. There are also obvious things like gift hampers too.

You could give them a gift for thier baby like a gift arrangement filled with keepsake items like a footprint kit and other baby essentials.
go to expressionableshopping.com and click on gift arrangements.

I find your question rather puzzling since a "Christening" is dedication of a child to Christ (Christ-ening...get the connection???), it's not "christianing".
The idea of bringing a "non-religious" gift seems strange, it is a religious ceremony.
