Is it a legal requirement? Does anyone know what kind of insurance they are meant to have?
Thanks

Insurance is not required for those mobility scooter that are meant for elderly and disabled people. The actual item may be covered under a special rider or their homeowners policy but as far as for liability, it is not required where I live.

In most states, a mobility scooter is treated the same as a wheel chair, and a wheel chair is under the same laws a pedestrian would follow. So, no, there there is no requirement for license or insurance on them.

There used to be a registration requirement at one time (not everywhere), but not for many years. They are not motor vehicles. They are insured under home-owner and tenant policies.
If Kitty thinks they are such a menace, perhaps she should volunteer her time and vehicle to drive the seniors and handicapped about so they don't need the power chairs! She should remember her parents may need them some day, and/or she may need one.

If it is something that is used to assist the hanicapped the liability will extend off of a homeowners or renters policy in most cases
