If you know of a good book or website on early childhood development, I'd love to hear your recommendations!

Thank you for your answer! I have a few goals in mind: I have three kids, one biological, age 13 months and two stepkids ages 5 and 8. I also have a new nanny for the little one. I'm just looking for basic insight into the mind of a child at all of these stages, and any information on educational strategies and emotional well-being, discipline, etc. Hoping to make the most educated choices in dealing with all three of them. I certainly appreciate all suggestions!

Check this one out:

It gives a lot of basic developmental markers by age groups.

This is a fairly broad question and I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for. What age range is your child? Are you looking for good educational activities? Are you suspecting developmental problems? If you can give a little more information, I might be able to guide you to more resources.

Wow, Mom, you're busy! 3 kids that young, and working too! Good for you for doing your "homework" and wanting to build on your parenting skills. I'll look back through my textbooks and do a little research and see what I can find. In the meantime, if you find you have a question about parenting, feel free to email me. Just click on my avatar and you'll see how to do that. Best wishes to you! Have a great day.

It might seem a bit off topic, but reading skills are important to early development. Here are some of my favorite books about reading and children:

The Read-Aloud Handbook: Sixth Edition (Read-Aloud Handbook) by Jim Trelease

How to Get Your Child to Love Reading: For Ravenous and Reluctant Readers Alike by Esmé Raji Codell
It offers book and activity suggestions for all ages of children.
She also has a website: www.planetesme.com

They are both easy reads.

The two books I find a must for all parents are:
Home Grown Kids, and Better Late Than Early both by Dr.Raymond Moore, and Dorothy Moore.

I have read many books on children. The BEST one I have read (Sorry to Maria Montessori) is

How to Talk So Kids Will Listen and Listen So Kids Will Talk
by Adele Faber

Check it out on Barnes and Noble. 15 ratings ... average rating 5 stars. Read through them at the bottom of that page.

I really like Dr. Sears books... he has a whole library of books; he is a well respected pediatrician and father of 8.
I also really like Brazelton books.
