Let me tell you something, brother. I think these athletes who think God helped them score a touchdown or get a base hit look pretty stupid, brother.

I always love it when UFC fighters thank god and jesus for helping beat someone into a coma. I laugh so hard!

I dont think God cares who wins a sporting even or if an athlete does well. I do however think that God intervenes in creating someone like Babe Ruth or Albert Pujols (or in other genres the Beatles or Da Vinci or Bach) just my personal belief.
I believe that athletes arent necissarily asking God to help him hit a home run but are thanking God for their ability to do so. Before you "tsk, tsk" and push the "thumbs down" button, I am not proclaiming any belief in Jesus or God or whatever, just relating why athletes cross themselves.

Kurt Warner is a different story.

Yes it is silly, isn't it? God isn't even responsible for winning wars and the idea that God is on one side or the other, is silly. I'm not religious but doesn't the bible say..."GOD LOVES THE WORLD"? I don't think it says God loves the United States and will defend it against all other nations. If god exists, it would certainly have as much compassion for the opposition as it does for the coalition. Very childish superstition to ask god to win a sporting event and just as superstitious and childish to thank him if you do win. Should the losers fall on their faces and repent for some sin they committed to cause God to make them lose? Shoud the losers curse god for not being just? All such stupidity!!! I thought developed countries were intellegent and evolved and yet its these countries acting so ridiculous...they haven't evolved very much yet! Still superstitious, narrowminded and egocentric. Sigh.....

Yes. When someone accepts Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, they become God's child. God is interest and cares about everything they do. God's children are given the privilege of calling on Him for everything, for coming to Him with thankfulness and praise. We are blessed.

This does not mean that we will always get what we want though. God knows what is best for us in the long run.

I completely and totally agree with you.

That remind me of a joke I heard some time ago.
A pop warner football game was being played, and all the little kids were huddled around each other, praying the God would give them the victory.
When, one of the kids peaks out at the other time, to see them doing the same thing.
He then says to his teammates, "Look, the other team is praying too! Now what happens?!" he then says, " I sure hope God likes our team better then theirs!"

God doesn't care who wins, but I think the athletes should be thanking Him not for scoring, but for keeping them injury-free in doing so!

No God doesn't care who wins, he's not that petty. Apart from that he's got much more important things to concentrate on than man's ego! 1 Timothy 4:8 say "For bodily training is beneficial for a little, but godly devotion is beneficial for all things, as it holds promise of the life now and that which is to come." Do you think these athletes really give God devotion, aren't they really devoted to themselves and their ego? So yeah, I think your right, they look pretty stupid to me too!

He is setting the line on the next Super Bowl as we speak. Do you realize how many potential touchdown passes would be dropped every year if he did not step in and do something?

God doesn't give a care about sporting events, especially professional. Think about it. The majority (99.99%) of professional athletes don't live their lives in harmony with God's standards. Why would he support their means of living if it took them away from serving him???

Not only does God not care who wins, but if you pray for your team to win; you are also praying for another team to lose, and you should never pray for something negative to happen to someone else.

However, you can pray that God will help each of the athletes to play to the best of his ability. (or her ability, if it's a women's game).
