I would say the same way you would try to boost your own immune system - a good balanced diet (plenty of fruits and veggies, whole grains, etc...) and rest.
However - they're all going to get a virus or two. That's just part of growing up. Getting those little bugs now and then helps strengthen their immune system later in life.

Interesting that you are concerned about giving antibiotics to kids because of some vague connection with immunity systems but don't even raise the questions about antibiotics for viral diseases like the cold where there is little evidence for using them and considerable evidence of the risks of creating antibiotic resistant strains of germs that should be vulnerable.
How about a balanced diet and plenty of exercise?

The best way to help your childs immune system is to feed them a healthy balanced diet and give them a daily multi-vitamin. They also need to get outside to play everyday so they don't build up excess fat. I beleive it is at age 5 that you can start giving them a pill called echinacea (Eka-nisha) . It helps to build the immune system. My mom always had my sister and I take them and we only got sick a few times and when we did get sick it never lasted. Good luck!

Let them play outside. Studies show that children subjected to pollen etc build a better immune system on their own-vs- children never subjected to germs or elements. The only way for your body to fight sickness is for it to have been exposed.

I did NOT immunize, and made sure my kids had exposure to many people, ORGANIC LOCAL honey contains lots of good things for your child, and also can be used to heal cuts and scrapes quickly! Mothering magazine http://www.mothering.com/ has tons of great healthy ideas in it to keep your kids healthy, and boost their immune system!

Give them fruits, veggies, & very little candy/sugar. A daily childrens multi-vitamin is good too. I agree w/ you, definantly keep them off of meds as much as possible.
