i have a 3 yr old dog, abby, who has never had pups however she is lactating because of a puppy we have. He is 4 months old and she nurses him. Her breast are breaking out extremely bad and are very sore. Is there anyway to get my puppy to stop stucking on her. and will eventually she dry up and stop lactating? if so how long does that usually take?

Get her spayed.

It would be best to take her to the vet for a check-up. She could develope mastitis which would not only hurt her but also your puppy. Your vet may be able to give her a shot to help her 'dry up'.
I don't know how big your female is, but you can put a onsies on her. They can easily be bought at any WalMart in the baby dept. This will also help stop any unwanted nursing. Good luck!

Best thing is to seperate the dogs, why have you left it so long for the pup to still be feeding off the female? You also need to take your dog to the vet to check out her breasts just incase they dont become infected once you seperate the two.

Its the best thing to do for the mom dog.

the best thing is to have your dogs fixed if you aren't going to breed them/ Your female can get mastitis. seh can nurse as ling as she wants it depends on the dog how long she will produce milk.
there is no way to stop them except seperate but seh may start all over again if and when put back together unless she is spayed.

Can you separate them for a little while? I would not put anything on them until you talk to a vet.
