i agree with you,not all marines are immature, but the ones that are will give the marines a bad name.i was in the army during the viet Nam conflict.that's when the army was something i was so proud to be a part of standing up for my country and respecting my uniform. the army taught or drilled respect into you then.and i must say it is still with me today.i think whats happened is the military has gone slack.after i got out of the army,i went to work on a marine base as civil service.i worked with marines as a civilian.and met some of the biggest baby's i had ever seen.so i agree with you not all marines are immature.

It is a combination of things. First off, when you go through Basic and all they are telling you is that you are the best, the toughest, nobody can beat you etc. then you actually start believing that crap and there you go, instant jerk. The age level 17-20, plays a large part in that too. As with most people, there are exceptions and I have served with them but for the most part, the brainwashing prepares them for combat not for being mature, that they have to do on their own.

This cracks me up because I recall working with a former Marine, and I found it to be somewhat dubious at times that he could ever have been a Marine because of some of his behaviour.
One thing that was really funny, though, is that a worker was injured when he was on shift and there was blood everywhere. It wasn't funny that the person was injured, but that this former Marine almost fainted at the sight of all of that blood. I had to grab him and give him a slap across the face.

Maturity is a mind set and an emotional level. Joining a group and going through grueling training does not ALWAYS change your emotional level or your mental mind set. The goal of the training is to change your mental mindset but that is not always the case. They sometimes use the term that they are "breaking you". But like a wild horse, some people cannot be broken

How old are they? Maturity comes with time. No matter, they most likely will soon be sent to Iraq, there they will go days without sleep, have people killed and maimed in front of them, they will in return kill and maim people. They will see and do horrible things in a short period of time. Next time you see them, try to think of the young boys that were at play in their immature way and not the old, tired young men be for you.

Marines are trained to think that they are "the best". Even their motto reflects that: "The few, the proud".
