my 3 year old daughter convinced her grandpa that she could paint her nails by herself so he gave her the fingernail polish and walked away and she decided to paint her entire leg red!! Remover just doesn't work very well and she says it hurts if I try and peel it. Any other ideas?

First of all, your daughter needs some reassurance that everything is going to be alright.

Different things work well for different kids, and I'm sure by now you know what can comfort them, whether it be ice cream or a favorite toy.

Prepare her a bubble bath with some mild soap. In addition to helping soften the nail polish, it calms the child down and further reassures her that everything will be alright.

When she gets out of the tub, wipe the leg down with a towel to see how much will come off. Nail polish doesn't generally adhere to skin all that well.

You may initially try an acetone free nail polissh remover, as acetone can be uncomfortable when applied to large areas of skin. If you do decide to use acetone, be sure to do so in a well ventilated area... the fumes can be harmful. Also acetone irritates the skin, especially in young children. So make doubly sure to wash off all the acetone when your done.

Here's a general Material Safety Data Sheet on acetone based nail polish remover:

Good luck!

When I use fingernail polish, I sometimes accidentally paint the sides of skin beside my nails. But when I soak my fingers in water and use a washcloth, it comes off. So I suggest bringing your daughter in a warm bath and letting her leg soak for some time so the skin gets soft and the outer layer peels (old skin is constantly coming off your body). When the outer layer peels off, so will the polish attached to it. Good Luck!

with nail polish remover or i would have her sit in the tub for some time. Or you could try getting it checked out by the doctor to see what's happening and if there's anything you should know before putting nail polish remover on her entire leg.

Nail polish remover applied then a shower using a light loofah with lots of soap and water. Remover has chemicals that should not be applied to skin but in this case ok, wash the skin well afterwards They thin resins and plastics with acetone, people think it is ok to use on skin it is not.

Use nail polish remover with acetone in it on cotton balls or gauze. It'll pick some of it up, and it'll smear some of it around -- so be prepared to take a while.

once it is dry, it will flake off by itself, the polish isn't designed to stick to skin very well and will come off, just leave it be. It won't hurt her.
