At one point in time, only CHRISTIAN MEN were said to have souls, so said the Catholic Church. I think women were declared "souled beings" in the 1800's and Africans declared "souled beings" in the 1950. Anyone have better dating and references?
Anyone else still soulless?

Do Women Have Souls

The episcopal synod at Macon met in C.E. 585 to decide do women have souls? They decided, on a voice vote, with a majority of one, that women did; but that female souls were inferior, sort of halfway between animals and men. The idea that women have grade-b souls persisted for many centuries, and in the 13th century Thomas Aquinas wrote matter of factly that "A woman is only an occasional and incomplete being, a kind of imperfect man."

Some people claim we make Mary into a goddess then others claim we think she has no soul!

The Catholic Church has always believed that all humans had souls, could be saved and go to heaven (could be saints).

+ Women saints:

Both the Blessed Virgin Mary and Mary Magdalen have been considered saints since their deaths.

The Church has a treasury of early female saints, many of whom were martyrs.

Here is a list of over 200: http://www.catholic.org/saints/female.php

+ Black saints:

Legend tells us that one of the Magi was Black.

The Bible tells us of Philip preaching to the Ethiopian eunuch in Acts 8:27.

Saints Aizan and Sazan were twin brothers. Aizan was the first Christian Emperor of the Kingdom of Axum, Ethiopia, circa 360.

Saint Moses the Black was a slave and gang leader who after conversion died a martyr of non-violence on August 28, 395. That date coincides with the march to Washington by 200,000 African Americans in 1963. (http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/saintm34.htm)

Saint Elesbaan was an Ethiopian King who died as a monk in Jerusalem in 555.

Saint Lalibala (Ghebre Mesqel) was an Ethiopian Emperor revered for his faith, circa 1255.

Saint Tekla Hymanot, about 1313, was an Ethiopian reformer of monasticism.

There have also been three African popes:
• St. Victor I (189-199)
• St. Melchiades (311-314)
• St. Gelasius (492-496)

There is currently some discussion as to whether Mark the Evangilist (author of the Gospel of Mark) might be black.

With love in Christ.

Can you show a link in which the catholic Church states that only Christian men have souls?

I doubt it, because this would go against all examples of veneration of the Virgin Mary and the numerous women saints.

Go away, little troll.
