I hear and read a lot about pulling out but rarely do I see or hear anthing above the "stay the course" rhetoric to back up the rationele and justification for staying (i.e. how will staying in Iraq further U.S. interest and long term safety?). What is the end point and ultimate goal?

the zionist dream of the kirkurk haifia pipeline is one. another is the superpower despite being only 5% of the worlds population, sucks up about 25% of the fossel fuels. what that has done is made the country fully dependant on foreign petrol. the superpower got saddam to stop selling petrol in euros, which was a threat to the petrol dollar backed by the pentagon. they will establish long term bases.

really there is no valid reason for the superpower to stay in irak, all the reason they are their are imperialistic.

You ask how "staying in Iraq [will] further US interest and long-term safety."

Right now, the Iraqi FM is asking that the US not pull out troops too early because he says if we do, it will lead to civil war and collapse of the new government.

I would think it would be in US interest and beneficial to long-term safety of not only the US but the world to keep Iraq as stable as possible and give this new democratic government a chance to stabilize.

Whether you agree or not on the military going into Iraq in the first place, now that we are there, we need to finish what we started and not leave those folks in a lurch.

I am not sure why you haven't heard anything other than "stay the course" rhetoric. Maybe it's because, at least to me, this is such an obvious answer. You don't start something and then leave it unfinished.

I would add however that "stay the course" in my mind should not always mean "keep doing the same thing over and over again regardless of whether it works or not."

I am guessing that is where the President was going with the recent build-up which was supposed to tip the scales once and for all against the insurgents.

This is a complex situation and I personally have yet to hear much factual support beyond the "let's just get out of there" rhetoric continually spouted by those on the other side of the political fence.

I do think that much of the negativity coming from the press and the Democratic side of the aisle has had an extremely detrimental effect on our efforts in Iraq.

Maybe if the rhetoric were dropped on both sides, some actual construction conversation could take place about how to best make our efforts in Iraq more successful.

When we started this situation, Pres. Bush had warned us that it was going to be along hard struggle. Everyone was behind him in going after the people/group that bombed our twin towers. This led us back to Iraq, now we are in Afghanistan, Iraq, N. Africa and few other places because of this. If we pull out of Iraq or any of these other places we will be feeding the problem. The same group/people that bombed us in the past will do it again and again and again. That is why we are there in the first place because we didn't put a stop to the bombings before, the USS Cole, Kabul Towers, Lebanon (Marine Barracks) just to name a few. If we let terrorist continue to breed THEY will be here putting IE D's on our roads. They are already here. We must stay the course until the Iraqi Government can sustain it's self. The media isn't putting it out but they are getting there.

Two reasons that probably supersede the support of Iraq, is: 1) Protect Israel from the threats it faces each and every day. 2) Diminish the prospects of Iran becoming the regional power. This alone could erupt into a regional conflict if the US were to withdraw. Israel, along with moderate Arab states would develop it's own coalition against Iran and Syria. And then, let the chips fall as they may !

its simple
if we get out now Iraq goes to **** (civil war)
if we stay
a long battle awaits

right now the powers that be think we should stick to our guns and help another nation out (considering we ousted their last form of stable government, we figure its the least we could do) maybe in another administration we'll pull out to save our boys and see what happens from a distance.... who knows

EDIT::
this war absolutely nothing to do with imperialistic agendas

regarding oil: our nation has every right to be concerned about the political turmoil and stability of a region that produces a large portion of the oil used by our country. This does not mean we wish to steal or in any way cheat other nations including other consumer nations... after all doesn't EVERYONE profit from stable (free) nations working together......... unfortunately this ideal is A LOT easier said than done and may not even be possible

well if we pull out now it will only cause more destruction and chaos there...we should stay there until they, the Iraq's, are able to defend themselves...i think Bush said from the beginning it will be long and hard...i guess as far as for the long term interest for the us...one could be safety...most terrorists are less likely to grow in a democracy...most terrorist have had teachings or teachers from dictatorships style governments...bring democracy will hopefully produce the result of people demanding choice and freedom rather than blind faith to their Imam...so as far as fact based information as to what will happen...i doubt that will ever be produced because the future is unknown...but looking at the past...when we pull out of Vietnam millions died because of it...

why iraq, idk; but imagin your city has a gang that is trying their hardest to take over. they force your family members to join, eventualy ur gonna try to do something, now you cant do it by yourself and every day the more pple resist the more pple die. most units out ther are the only police they have. now this isnt the main mission but its a valid reason to be there, its basic human rights preservation, they need help just look at the news, dont just look at soldiers, look behind them, and ask yourself if you wouldnt want help if you lived there

The real reason is we CAN'T get out... We've been trapped in. No really, the road to Kuwait that we came in on is fraught with danger, and if we were to leave, we would not want to leave billions of dollars in equipment and munitions behind. Seriously, we would not be able to use that route we came in on to go out from...
The only way out is to exit through the Kurdish area, and then perhaps exit through Turkey, if they'll let us...

If we retreat from Iraq, the terrorist will pursue us and our allies, expanding the fight to the rest of the region and to our own shores.
