the number seems artificial, perhaps a number palatable to the masses. pictures on my TV here, where the war is not censored shows many dead Americans. if the 3600 is to be believed, this will be the first war in any nations history where real and honest death counts are issued. i somehow doubt that. using the Vietnam formula you could multiply the official number by about 2.5 to achieve a closer count.

people in the west are getting a heavily censored sanitized account of the war by journalists " in bed " watching the war uncensored on my TV here, with independent journalists , who many times die trying to get the story, one would think I was watching two different wars.

Regardless of what has or hasnt been gained can NEVER replace nor rectify those lives stolen from 9/11 and other following bombings.

While the losses are sad, the death count is nothing compared to what WWI and WWII were at, nor would I care to see a WWIII occur. So better that the Middle East stay occupied for the time being.

Cantcu, grow up and quit hiding out under your mothers apron. I neither blamed nor insinuated that 9/11 had anything to do with Iraq. And any intelligent person would know insurgents/terrorists also comprise of Lebanese, Syrian, Egyptian, etc nationalities as well....even some "Americans" are affiliated with plots. So dont give me that bull.

As sad as it is to lose a life, the Soldier's, Sailors, Marines and the Air Force that put their lives on the line everyday for this Country know what is being asked of them and why. It's to keep the terrorist out of the United States and IT becoming a killing zone for our kids here. For those that are protesting something, why don't you protest the 6,000 teen deaths each year from drunk drivers. In the last four years that's 24,000 we have lost right here in the United States from stupidity and carelessness that we could have made an impact on here. Maybe it's another terrorist plot to kill off our young.

I think a lot of them would have died regardless of where they were.

Infact in my town a soldier came home from Iraq on her 2 week leave and days before she was to return to Iraq she drowned trying to save her brothers life (who drowned also.)

It is always sad when someone dies, but it is a part of life and somes careers. How many police and firefighters have died in the US this year? Why isn't that number on the news everytime it changes? I'm sure it'd be higher than 3600, especially if we include non job related deaths like we do when adding up the Iraq War deaths.

I think the loss of ALL human lives in the Middle East is a travesty and a tragedy. Watching videos of injured and dead military and civilians is heartbreaking. Who's to say that some lives are expendable? As to what do we have to gain, some Americans have gained a feeling of security from this "its either them or us" farce. However, due to White House hi jinks the US is at swords point with the Middle East. while Cheney, Halliburton et al just hunker down and count their billions. Due to increasing hostilities, scenarios similar to 9-11 are predicted for America. But all the blaming in the world won't bring back the dead, and in time there will be no one left to blame.

For you to even ask this question, it is obvious you have no clue as to what freedom costs. Do you think America maintains her place in the world at no cost? We are under constant attack from people who want what we have, but are not willing to pay the price to get it. Why do you think we have a problem with illegal immigrants? There are not many places in the world that have a problem keeping people OUT, rather they have problems keeping them IN.
You should thank God every day that we have a government and military that are willing to pay the price to keep our freedom.

Actually it is 3,893 body bags. The American media doesn't count our allies as allies!

It is a total waste. We have not gained a damn thing except for 2 tankers that pull 4 million barrels of light crude out of Iraq every month!

The Iraqi PM said it would start a civil war if we pulled out. I don't know where he has been, but they have been in a civil war for a long time. Now they are going to hold a no confidence vote on the PM and who knows what will happen then.

One thing is for sure, Gen.Petraeus says there is no military victory to be had, all the Republican Senators are jumping off of Bush's bandwagon, and he is going to be told to start withdrawing the troops!

There is NOTHING to gain in Iraq except oil! Do you think Bush will ever admit this war was over oil? He could care less how many kids get killed, or wounded, as he tried to cut VA hospitals for a 2nd time! Psychopath!

And Daisy, why do you people keep talking about 9/11? Iraq HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH 9/11 OR TERRORIST!!!!! Where have you been the past 3 years? Why do you keep repeating that lie?

what i find disgusting is that the war on terror has cost more lives than were lost when the 2 towers collapsed. What i find totally disgusting is that the war appears fabricated - did anyone else find it a huge coincidence that a bin laden tape was found and released to the media 2 days before the most recent election?? What up with that? I think gw bush has a library of those things to release whenever the community focus shifts away from national security!

Well I haven't read all of the answers...but as a military wife...soldier is part of the 3rd Infantry Division.......my husband and his fellow soldiers fight everyday overseas for peoples freedom...there are things that he has seen that I do not want to know about...and he does it all for the sake of freedom...he and others like him fight so other people around the world can have the freedoms we so take for granted...for example...you can bad mouth bush and the war and such and not be shot..or our family members slaughter...remember that each and every time you think of these question....can't tell you how many mass graves my husband had to help dig up...and on another note..you might want to research how many soldiers were killed in WW2...it was alot more....a hell of alot more....

Well we'd have gained a lot more if the left would stand firmly behind our country instead of trying to tear it apart just so they can win an election. Together we stand divided we fall.
