I've seen Marines get their a** whipped in bar fights. I've also seen them get beaten up in street brawls and organized fighting. Quite frankly, I'm stronger than some Marines.

So, why do Marines always have to tell other people that they're bada** and that they can beat anybody in anything, anytime?

So what if you're a Marine? Does it really mean anything?

*Please keep in mind that I am aware that there are good humble Marines out there, and those are the ones that I truly respect and support.

I am US Soldier not a Marine, but the answer is probally the same. You only have so much time to train. With that training with your weapon takes 1st priority. Couple the limited time to train with Operation Dog and Pony Show and the time to practice hand to hand is limited even more. The basic fact is that a guy who goes to a dojo 2 or 3 times a week is going to get more hand to hand training than anyone in the military, at least on military time.

most military work is teamwork and the US Marines excell at teamwork.

The US Marines are officially classified as 'light infantry'. This means that they do not have the masses of military capital equipment used by modern Armored divisions, or Air-mobile divisions. What they have is highly trained teams of very dedicated people.

Are there other highly trained teams of very dedicated people out there in the military world? Plenty. Britian's Special Air Service squads, for one. America has Army light infantry divisions, too. Some of them would give the Marines a great standup battle.

Which doesn't really matter -- the Marines are the unit you'd call on as President if you needed a force larger than a company and smaller than an Army which would have to be fairly self-sufficient for a while against all comers.

Because in boot, the Marines are told God first, Corps, second and Country, third.
They are the first to land in any conflict. Actually Marines have to get "sensitivity training" prior to leaving basic training, just for the reason that they are so Gung Ho...they get into bar fights. Most of it is from what they learn during boot camp. Also, once a Marine, Always a Maine. It's brotherhood....Guys that have been out 30 years still celebrate the Marine Corps Birthday in November. HUMBLE MARINE??????? Never heard of such a thing. They are the best of the best Semper Fi.

Marines are taught that they are the best. That they are indestructable and that they are above and beyond any other man. In truth, they are no different from other people when it comes to strength. Other organizations achieve teamwork without that haughty attitude, so why are they so different? In a nutshell, they are the front line of defense and they get trained for that. You may be stronger than some Marines but I doubt that you would put yourself in harms way as quickly and act as efficiently under pressure than they would. That is the true meaning of being a Marine.

Many Marines are probably not unlike men around the world.
All by themselves, they are the most basic people on the face of the earth.
In a group, they are something else to deal with!

Being a good fighter does not depend on body strength. Its all in the head. Speed is also important. Being trained of course has an advantage.
