Slightly modified by me, PIRATE SEAN posed this question http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AtNw_mUhHy5GdAlBE6ZUh9vsy6IX?qid=20070707081914AAE4bin&show=7#profile-info-9oD6hJOsaa
but the answer that he picked was a no answer answer. I think it deserves a redo. Here’s a chance for us to do a much better job on the question.

PIRATE SEAN added this: quoting scripture that you have know idea what it means. You sound and look foolish. Be LIKE Christ, don’t try to be Christ.

Ear GW (me) answered like this:

If I've been taught by my Master and am attempting to become like him then maybe that has something to do with how you feel I answer a question? I agree that you may get that feeling from my answers.

However, one of my first goals is to be a gentleman when I answer. I try very hard to make sure I say, "I believe" and not "I know" this or that. However, if I am sure about something then I say it …or write it… confidently and I will say then that “I know it”.

For example, If my Master says that he is the only way to God, the Father (And He did):
Using perfect logic then, he is either a liar, or lunatic or he’s correct. Now, no leader or founder of the other major religions has made this claim. So, because ours is one of the four major religions (there are 6 major belief systems, however) it behooves anyone reading my statement to find out which one of those things that my Master is. If a person is not going to look into this conundrum then they are ones acting overconfident, not I, and not, as you put it, “all the CHRISTIANS”.

Therefore, in this case, I will say, "I know". It has to be one of the three: liar, lunatic or Master. Ok, so I sound kinda’ like a guru. But is what I am saying true or not?! Wouldn’t that matter above and beyond what I, or we, sound like as long as the writer is truly being a gentleman?!

Sounds like you wanted to win. That Liar Lunatic or Lord argument is one of the reasons I believe. (That with the historical accuracy of the New Testament...and actually a host of other reasons...)

Well to answer the question though... I think alot of people here are here to learn by doing some research... offering answers to questions... and reading others answers. If that makes us gurus then so be it. I like that word.

I saw that question, too, and chose not to answer it. I figured it would be a waste of my time.

Perhaps some of us do sound like we're trying hard to be "gurus" or "prophets" when we're not, but there are also some VERY intelligent Christians on here (the question was directed at Christians so I'm not intentionally excluding anyone else, because there are many intelligent atheists, agnostics, Wiccans, pagans, Muslims, Buddhists, and HIndus on here as well) who really DO come close to being "gurus." Some of us on here actually know our stuff!

And by the way, I think you gave an excellent answer.

I believe that the most important thing is that we be sincere in our answers.

I can't speak for others, just myself. I feel I don't act like either a prophet or guru. I know I have a lot of learn yet, as does any Christian I imagine, even after almost 25 years. That said, I do know some things by experience. I know God is real, his son was who he claimed to be, the Bible is true, and salvation is avaiable for all who ask.

I find it strange that many of the non-Christians state the opposite, but never seem to provide any proof for their statements. They claim that religions are fake, that God doesn't exist (how they could try to prove a negative I've yet to understand), the Bible is composed of made up stories, and we're fooling ourselves. I'm still waiting for something to back up these statements other than "It doesn't make sense". I'm guessing I'll be waiting a long time. :(

I think that many misconstrue what Christians write as being written on God's behalf. I'm not here for God; I'm here to get a better understanding of other peoples beliefs. I try to contribute to this understanding with questions and answers but am ultimately here to learn.
I think the 'Guru's' point is made towards anyone who doesn't believe the same as they do and I think most people forget the basic etiquette on answering questions in this forum.
So, from what I understood of what you were trying to write I agree with. It is better to be polite, then informative rather than neither polite nor informative.

I think that thoes Christians- not all -who act like that have got stuck in their head that you have to work to get to heavan. I'm not trying to quote, honestly, but God said that whoever believes in Christ shall live in enternal life. It says nothing about works. Anyways.. I think those Christians were also trying to convert people. I don't try to do that, but sometimes I'm tempted, like, when people are athiest or something. I know that's their decision, but I just want to give it one last short before it's final. But, I'm just going on and on, here. Back to the question- When people quote God and act as if they're a prophet, I think they have the WWJD thing stuck in their head so bad. Jesus doesn't expect us to be him. Only do what's best. Some people are totally ignorant.

People have issues, whatever their religion. Some are self-important and want to impress other people. Personally, when I answer a question (and yes, I'm a Christian), I try to be as brief as possible and state what I believe without attacking what someone else believes.

Of course, I'm just another person with issues, so you can take my statement with a grain of salt.

Here we go with the "Why do Christians this and that."
Hmmm. At least you said alot of Christians, you didn't
say All Christians on this site.
Do you believe, if you don't, why worry about it and
why worry about it if you believe anyway? There's enough
critcizing on here anyway. I asked one question
one time about why do people think Christians are
all the same and received some interesting answers.
I won't ask again about Christianity as I believe what I
believe and if others don't, that's up to them.
And by the way, as you can see, I do not preach and
quote Bible verses.

Because all Christians have an unquenched thirst to feed their massive " i am superior to you" egos.
