We all want to find the truth. Wouldn't it be nice if we knew the answer to the meaning of life and everything. (Wait a minute, we do....it's 42. Now what was the question?)
As far as the Mormon thing goes.....yes. All organized religions are a hoax used to exploit the populace and to consolodate wealth and power. I am not saying that there is no God or Jesus didn't exist, or that the Bible is not full of life teaching we should try understand. In fact, quite the opposite.
But if you recall, according to the Bible, Jesus himself fought against organized religions. The modern Christian church is a result of the evangelism Paul/Saul, who himself obviously was a power hungry lunitic.
If you learn the whole story of the Mormon church, and consider it clearly using the mind God gave you, I think you will find the answer.

If the Jewish religion and the Hebrew Bible are facts then the Mormon religion is a Hoax. The whole idea is based on the fact that people are like sheep and follow blindly at times to other people. We were given a mind to think with and we should use it. We have to live with ourselves and get along with our neighbors. Sometime a man's religion will put him at odds with his friends, and country and sometimes might be considered the downside of religion. With all the good that hate and intolerance taught by religion being it Mormon or Islam or any religion we are bound to have strive in the world.

Yeah, I'm going to have to side with the previous answers. All religion is a hoax in one form or another, Mormonism is no exception.

If you believe in God ,then pray about it,with a sincere heart! Search, ponder and pray. Its not a hoax, its a Church, and when people say that LDS members are not Christians....remember Its The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day - Saints..not the Church of Mormons...that was given by non members. If you want the truth about ANY Church ask its members...they know their religion!

Well, since I'm LDS, I think your answer should come from someone who practices the religion, and not someone who has "heard" things about the church.
Our beliefs are a little- ok maybe a lot- different from other religions, but people are unwilling to even learn the basics of our religion. All of the stuff people have been saying on here have been from sources other then the church. That should give you some clue as to the likelyhood that they really don't know.
You can do as much research as you want on any church, and you are going to find good points and bad points, and things people say are wrong. You are never going to get a straight answer about any religion from outside of that religion.
Yes, we can all make our own minds up, but having misinformation won't help with that decision.
Here are some websites for you to check out, that way, you can make your own mind up. Feel free to email me, I'll answer your questions the best way I can.

When I first started to go to Church I wanted to discover the same thing. While I was trying to learn the 'truth', I looked past the work for the Lord that was going on all around me. I was shown a film about the three witnesses. They give their testimonies at the beginning of the Book of Mormon. I learned that each one broke with Joseph Smith and left the Church. Each stood to gain if they denied their statements. None did. When my eyes were opened by their courage, I could see the love of and for the Savior that was all around me.
I am reminded of the word of the apostle Paul, "Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost."

The only way to find out something is to learn about it. Talk to someone who knows about it, preferable someone who likes it considering the only way to understand it, is to hear it from someone who believes it. You'll hear plenty of negative things without even trying to find it, especially asking about LDS religion here.
But as many have told you already and it's so true. You can never know if something is good or something worth believing in unless you ask yourself and ask God. I'm not an LDS member who can say and says "it's the true church"
I don't think that when we all meet our maker in the end for judgement the first question he asks us is, "What religion were you" (not that he would need to ask us he would already know, but for the sake of the argument) And you'll be sent packing if you don't choose the right religion.
I think the path and journey to finding a truth, a belief system, a religion is to educate and participate in them and then find the place that makes you feel comfortable, the one that makes you feel like by practicing it you can have a relationship with God and feel close with him. Then that will be "your" true church. And that's all that matters, no matter what anyone else says about that church or whatever.
Ultimately I believe God just wants us to find a mode to feel closer to him. For me it was in the LDS church after I learned what it was all about, for you it might not be, then again it maybe.. only you will know!
Go find your truth and ultimately then you'll find "the" truth!
Just my opiniion.. Hope it helps!

The Mormon religion is a evil corruption of the Christian faith. Any religion by its doctrines that portray Jesus as a liar and a fool cannot be a true Christian religion. Jesus made certain promises to His Church so that we can be assured of His veracity and the Mormon church stands in testimony that He lied with His promises.
The truth is that Jesus never lied to His Church. The gates of hell have never prevailed and caused total apostasy of His Church. The Church still remains the "bulwark and ground of the truth". The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are still one and there are no other Gods nor will we, by our faithfulness, become gods also.
At best one could call the Mormon church a perverted caricature of the Christian religion but even that portrayal would not reveal the evil nature of the faith that may separate millions from their eternal inheritance. May the Lord have mercy.
In Christ

I'm taking classes on different religions, and we just started on Mormonism yesterday. I understand that they believe what they believe, but they have no idea how badly deceived they are. Their definitions of certain terms is not the same as a Christian's, and their bibles and the Book of Mormon are so far out. Their practices are extremely difficult for their women. The suicide rate of Mormons is astronomical. I cannot see how anyone practicing Mormonism will ever get to Heaven!

Christianity is a hoax as well, but difficult to "prove" as the historical sources are 200 centuries distant.
Mormonism, on the other hand, is quite fresh, with census statistics, affidavits, sworn testimonies, diaries, court reports, newspapers and newspaper subscriptions, library book records, transcribed speech's from several sources, etc.
Plus virtually all the doctrine from Joseph Smith can be compared to contemporary data and the complete absence of theological, historical, archaeological, biological, horticultural, anthropological, and linguistical evidence.
The gold plates never existed, no one ever saw them expect when 'covered' by a cloth and described by Smith so the witnesses could see them with their "spiritual" eyes (hypnosis).
It is a complete and utter fabrication that molded 19th century 'new age' theories, old-time circuit preaching, magic, folklore and the occult into one sloppy package.
But the people are nice.
