No. Millions of people deal with diabetes as a totally controllable illness that does not threaten life nor require anything as drastic as chemo.

Having diabetes is out of comparison to devastation you may have from cancer. However it will all depend on the person afflicted with Diabetes on undestastanding the disease and being careful on everything that needs to be given attention to live safely and sond despite being diabetic. Know the disease, know what medications are sre supposed to take, what diet you should have, what activities you can do, what things you must be careful with. At least, in diabetes you almost have all the idea of what is going on, thus you know how to deal with such 'battle".
Whereas in cancer, there are many things which is not being understood and nobody knows what is going to happen.
Plus, in cancer you may be required chemotherapies or so, Such is such a big deal to face. Taking insulin or other diabetes tablets wouldn't be as burdensome that taking cancer treatments.
The complications that may take place in cancer are somewhat more attributed by chemotherapies or radiotherapies (except when it has spread all over affecting the rest of the organs) and you have to accept whatever may come along or after the treatment. For diabetes, brings many complications as well but with extensive care and adherence to the PRESCRIBED treatment, you can avoid them somehow.

Diabetes is a bad disease. Cancer is many different diseases. I'd rather have skin cancer than diabetes, but I'd choose diabetes over most other forms of cancer.

Diabetes can cause kidney failure, blindness, vascular problems (leading to amputation), heart attacks, strokes and neuropathy (loss of feeling in the hands and feet). It's an ugly disease.

Diabetes is controllable, though, whereas many cancers are not.

It's hard to compare them, except that both can be debilitating.

That wasn't much help, was it?

Except for a rare form of diabetes called "brittle", I would rather have that than cancer. In fact, I do have that. I've had it since 1987 and to this point have suffered none of the long-term effects, because I have controlled my blood sugar. With all the new medications available today, that's pretty easy to do, and all the new sugar-free foods help too! LOL

My Grandmother and Grandfather had diabetes and my Mom has it. She's had it since the mid 90's. It's manageable, but it takes TONS of will power. You run the risk of losing your vision, problems with your feet, oh, the list goes on and on. My Dad has cancer. He's been living with it since 2000. It's slowly progressing. Sometimes he hurts really bad. Looking at it from both sides of the spectrum, I do not want either one to tell you the truth.
