I usually grounded him and took away his things. Confined him to the house, no friends to visit and no computer or phone. He is now 33 married and has his own home. He is a Gulf War veteran and is now going to college and working. He turned out well without having to spank. BTW it was not considered so bad to spank when he grew up, but I never saw the need.

Spanking is not a jail sentence crime. Spanking is not a crime but beating the child is. However there are better punishments for misbehaving children and If the child was REALLY bad most likely the police would be involved. That should scare them into being good!!

When the government pays for my child's room, board and medical expenses than they can tell me how to raise them. There is nothing wrong with a couple of wackes on the bottom if you have already tried time out, going to room and taking privileges away. Now I do not believe in beating a child but a old fashioned proper spanking never hurt anyone when all else has been tried. If more parents would discipline their children we would have less teen pregnancies, drug use and theft, also you would find that young people like to have rules and have the rules enforced. If you never follow through when you say you are going to do a certain thing for punishment the child will never learn there are consequences for their actions, for every action there is an equal re action. Just for the record I have two adult children that both have been in the Navy, never any problems while going to school both got good grades and would never have thought it was OK to spite at any adult let alone a teacher, they are both raising their own familes now and doing quite well for themselves.

Spanking and slapping your child IS NOT ILLEGAL
What is illegal is bruising and injuring him as a consequence of the spanking. So, turn down the intensity and spank away if it is your opinion of parenting.
But just let me tell you that when they get to be taller than you, and are in a culture where kids have the right to spit on their teachers and get a mere suspension or detention, you will really be in knots trying to discipline the teen you can't spank anymore.
So, learn to give rewards for good behavior and take away things he likes because of bad behavior instead. It is far longer lasting, although it drains you while they are children.
Remember, you want to pick your battles. Lose a few, to win the war in the end ;-)

Let me tell you, I'm a firm believer in spanking. The problem arises when parents will not discipline their kids early on and are consistent. They wait until the "child" who now turns 15 or 16 and is totally out of control to do something because their way of "Reasoning" with the child no longer works, or never did. NEWSFLASH: It's TOO LATE to start spanking your kids then. If you are going to discipline the kids START EARLY, by age two a little "tap" on the butt or wrist lets them know who's in charge. By age Six, they should know between whats good and bad and what is acceptable behavior and what is not, after that age, disciplining your kids is so easy you may NEVER have to spank them again. Basically, put some effort is raising your children, they will be YOUR replacements in life. One more piece of advice- Learn how to say "NO" and MEAN IT!!!!!!

So where did you hear this one? Spanking wont land you in jail. Beating your kid will. There is a major difference.

This is a serious situation & the result of our governments beastly system where we can't even discipline our kids without getting into trouble. this is just part of the reason why our kids today have no respect for the parents or any one else for that matter. try removing a privilege that really means a lot to him or her. Thius may help convince them to modify thier behavior.

No police officer in their right mind would interfere with a parent (appropriately) spanking their child. Any cop who did wouldn't be fit to wear the uniform.

It is not the duty of adults to create new punishments, but rather to point out the negative consequences inherent in the child's negative actions… and to suggest positive alternatives.
