I walked out in the yard this morning to see my dog throwing up- with big pieces of grass in it. I give him 1.5 cups of IAMS a day and he is 23lb. Is he eating the grass because he is hungry or just stupid (as much as I love him:P)?

I am switching him from puppy food to adult- but I only put a tiny bit of adult in each time.(I was told he was 4 months old and he's really over a year)

I've heard Pedigree is awful. My friend with her MS in comp. animal nutrition recommended IAMS so I plan to stick with it unless I baby seems to get sick all the time even after an adjustment period.

People say that dogs eat grass because their stomachs are upset, but dogs do not have the deductive reasoning it takes to come to such conclusions. Plus, grass could hold onto traces of worms, giardia, etc. and make our puppies sick, so try to get him to STOP eating grass!

Our vet says that dogs (and cats) eat grass and other plants around the house because they are not getting greens in their diet. In the wild, they would eat the stomachs of their kill, which would normally contain greens, since most smaller animals are vegetarian. Most prepared foods don't contain green products so pets crave it. We grow a pot of pet greens in the house for our pets to graze on when they are in the mood.

it is normal for most dogs to eat grass the grass helps there stomach from hurting from such stuff as table scraps (to much food not in you case though) and even bad food normally its the tale scarps that are fed to them is what makes all that happen. then when they eat the grass it feels great to them.....ten minutes or so later it hurts again so they either eat more grass or they vomit or essentially "throw up"

Kathy has nailed this one...Dogs crave grass as it contains things they need....Cornell Unv would agree 100% with that and would like to dispel the myth that says they eat it to vomit...silly idea..

Dogs eat grass bcause they need to throw up. Your dog is not hungry when it eats grass, just has an upset tummy.

it's not hunger.i had(and still have)dogs and they all do that(not too much, though),inspite of the fact that i give them everything they need to eat.your friend threw up because he had too much and might be a sign that there is smth wrong .if you see other strange things about him, take him 2 the vet.might be anemia or some parasites...
