Replaced whole columb and control unit still dead?

The electric motor was on the part you replaced. Let me check Nissan Versa service manual. Any malfunction in the Electronic Power Steering will turn on the light and shut down steering assist. I think you need to run the steering codes with dealership diagnostic tool, Reset the E-Prom, Does the spedometer work? Almost fully self contained torque sensors motor control unit all were replaced with coloumn. Now you have an extra EPS unit when you find the real problem. Any thing bad around the battery terminals voltage ok. Good Luck
