To those who do not know what this question is about read the book of Revelation in the Bible chapters 13:16-17 and 14:9-11.

You're getting a bit ahead of yourself insofar as it's not going to be compulsory in 2008 but trials will begin.

That said, eventually - probably by stealth, over a number of decades - become 'normal' for such chips to be implanted at birth and nobody will be able to move economically or socially without one.

This 'non-person' status fits in with what the bible says about the mark of the beast - especially as it says that the 'beast' will appear to come with a message of peace (how about - life will be so much easier if......) and will only declare it's true intentions much later.

I also understand that (and this is the bit that carries most weight with me) that, if any such implant is to function best (i.e. self-recharge and be accessible for practical purposes) the best two sites on the human body would be the back of the hand or on the forehead. Not bad 'guesswork' for a 2,000 year old prediction!

As for the 666 bit, like much of Revelation, this is symbolism the meaning of which may only become clear immediately prior to the event to which it refers. There was a film in the late '70s called Thief in the Night, where the mark of 'registration' was as nice pattern; thus:

0110
0110
0110
(think binary).

I was quite shocked when I was doing a micro processor programing coarse and I found out that basic machine language is a hexadecimal language that consists of 666 so being implanted with a micro chip would be receiving the mark of the beast or the number of his name and it makes sense you wont be able to buy or sell with out it. Wow 2008 things are really happening

Yes the Bible did predict this! I'm with you! People wake-up! She said she heard Andy Ronney say he will volunteer. I heard him myself! This came from Network Television! Isn't that credible? This is Miro chip thing is in the workings. If the government really wanted to tattoo or brand 666 on us no one would do this! Henceforth the microchip! Use your common sense!

This is only what happens when the people let the government have all the power. We the people can stop this at any time. No, the bible did not predict implanted microchips. It's not the 'mark of the devil'. It's just totalitarianism.

It sure did, and it is an extremely scary concept, to be ruled by anyone who gets hold of that information, who in their right minds can justify taking your entire life and put it in a chip, we are not the robots, we are human beings and last time I checked still living in a democracy.

You will have to take the chip to buy and sell. You will have to take the chip to prove that you are not a terrorist. All that refuse the chip will be hunted down like dogs.

The Bible made a vague prediction, but it states that it would be "the mark of the beast" which is 666. So, unless the government starts putting little "666" microchips in your arm, I'm sorry, you're just being paranoid.

I would not take the chip simply because I do not value US Citizenship, and plan to move in the next year or two if possible.

Microchips are great for payment applications (like bus or underground fares) but no good at all for idenification purposes. This is because, without some additional biometric (i.e. Body related measurement(Iris, Fingerprint, voiceprint etc.) validation the microchip cannot serve as an identifer.

The questioner uses the term "implanting in us" which infers some sort of compulsion which would (and is) not the case.

I, for one would welcome a sub-cutanous payment mechanism. Never need to carry a credit card again!

I can see how it would be useful for our security. How it may change how we live our lives for the better. Yet I also agree with every opinion against it. Each side has its pros and cons, so there is no more credibility either way.
