What I am talking about is wheather you start as a city council member or congressman, you time has started. After 20 years you can no longer be involved in politics. This would include all judges, sheriffs, representitives, or LOBBYIST!!!

Our Founding Fathers NEVER intended for people to be professional politicians. The idea was that elected officials would serve for several years and then return to their homes and their former livelihood. What has happened is we now have countless politicians who (a) couldn't do any other job, and (b) have learned how to milk the system for all it's worth, so they simply do not care about anything but lining their own pockets and saying or doing whatever they need to in order to get re-elected. There should be no such thing as career politicians, especially at the Federal level. Since the terms run 2, 4, and 6 years, it should be capped at 12 years.

Why 20 years? We need term limits which should give senators and Representatives a maximum of two terms. The senator would be in office 12 years and the Representatives would be in office for 4 years. After that they are bought by big business and special interest groups that that is generally no good for the American people. As for Mayor or city councils that's "small stuff" and doesn't entertain real politics.

I am against term limits in general, as it disqualifies the most qualified. Rather than term limits, I want to see a stop to the gaming of the system. Gerrymandering districts should be outlawed and districts drawn by community not politics. If a community changes, then so should the representative.

that could be a good thing because it gets rid of bad people with big followings, but a bad thing because if you have a good person who everyone likes, you MUST give them up
