No contest: AIR FORCE, hands down. I could give you a mountain of reasons why the Air Force is better than the other branches of the service, but let me sum it up simply: I have friends in all branches of the service (including the Coast Guard) who have all said the same thing -- "Man, I wish I had joined the Air Force!"
Why does the Air Force rank on top? Simple: The Air Force attitude is to recruit the best people and take care of them while they're in. As a result, the Air Force has a retention rate that is much higher than any other branch of the service. Over 60% of first-term airmen re-enlist, as compared to about 40% for the Navy and Coast Guard, 33% for the Army, and 20% for the Marine Corps.
The Air Force "takes care of you" by providing better living quarters, better facilities, better morale/welfare/recreation programs, and more opportunities to continue your education. It's next to impossible to go to college if you're in the field doing training 25 days out of the month, or if you're on a ship/submarine, but in the Air Force they work your shifts out so you can take college courses if you want to. You'll also have a better chance of using what you learn on the job in the Air Force when you get out and move into the private sector. The Air Force offers more jobs in marketable career fields like electronics, computers, engineering, medical, etc., than the other branches of the service. Whether you're thinking of doing four years or making a career out of it, you can't beat the opportunities the Air Force has to offer.

If you want to join the military, and you only have a GED; the Army is your best (and probably only) option. Any branch can prepare you for a job in FBI or CIA, it depends on how you take advantage of the programs offered by that branch. You should focus on finishing a degree, or at least getting on track toward getting a degree. You should also try for a job that requires a security clearance, and teaches you a marketable skill. Computers, Intelligence, and Languages would be good bets. You could also start as Military Police and switch over to Criminal Investigation Division. Good Luck

I served in the US Navy onboard Submarines, and it could not have possibly been more rewarding. I got advanced schooling and was in a class room learning college electronics for two years (you get college credit for them) Plus the GI bill to finish up. and collected sub pay the whole time. I got to see and do alot of really cool stuff, and I made E-5 in just over two years. SO the pay and advancement was great and being in the ELITE Submarine force and earning my Dolphins was a high point in my life. Fast attacks will do 6 month deployments but they go to Europe and Italy and other countries alot. Boomer's (SSBN) missle boats only go out 3 months at a time, but they don't pull into ports, so depending upon what you want you can usually choose between them. Which ever service you choose, DON"t go in striking (enlisting without a chosen rate) pick a rate, electronics, nuclear power, etc. You usually ahve to enlist for longer, but you are in aclass room stateside like you were in college for two years earning money. Good Luck! Airfroce is alright as well, but you advance REALLY SLOWLY. Navy has a the best advancement and therfore pay.

Best at what? Apples and oranges. Airforce flys the best. Navy sails the best. Marines ... well they are Marines and great at it. The Army is the best at the long haul. Airforce treats their members better than most but promote slower. Ship bound Navy travels a lot. What are you interest? What field are you thinking about. There are lots of active, reserve, guard and vets of all in here. Define you question and I'm sure you will get a lot of great answers.

I am an Army vet. But I like the Coast Guard. You almost never get sent to war. You are always stationed in the US. With shore patrol duty, you can ride around in a boat all day.

My grandfather is dying right now: he was in the navy (lower officer ranking) and it seems to have done him some good. The pills keeping him alive now cost a fraction of the price...Consider post military career health care into your equation.

U.S. Air Force! Sorry it is just the best choice, my dad was Army and uncle was in the Navy, plus brother in law in Marines and Coast Guard. We were treated better and better facilities than everyone else. Good luck on your choice and if you do join thanks for serving.

I don't think one is better than the other. I was in the Army, but I would choose the Air Force today.
