Where do you get your information other than that one way mind of yours? The news touted it as a great success. And Al Gore doesn't have to go away and my guess is that he won't. Sorry! But it will just give you more ammo for you continuous antagonistic ranting if he stays. You love it and you know it and your questions show it.

Al Gore is, I believe, here to stay. And I'm glad he has decided to stay out of the political arena. As a politician he could become marginalized by other aspects of the political landscape. As a crusader for the environment, I believe he tends to stand tall.

Thank you for providing me this opening to describe my appreciation for the work of Al Gore.

Since the goal of Live Earth was to raise awareness I'd say, at least in my case it was a success. While many of the tips they gave where basic energy (money) saving advice that you don't necessarily think of on a day to day basis it got me thinking about more ways I can reduce my energy use and therefore have more money to spend on things I enjoy.
