No this isn't hurting them, it's not cruel, it's all in good fun. I always give him tons of love afterwards and he forgives me. I would never do anything to hurt an animal, so for those who are so uptight they can't take a joke and they think it's going to "scar" their cat for life, needs to chill.

Yeah, they don't much like you for a little while afterwards, either. Seems almost like they get embarassed by the way they act to get it off. The one I did it to looked back over his shoulders at me just as soon as his feet hit the ground, as if to say, "Why? You Pr*&k, what did I do to you", then took off running and shaking his paws vigorously, and might I say comically, until he managed to strip it off his feet. Did you wrap it backwards around itself, so it was sticky side out? I did.

No but I remember I was working on a scrapbook and my cats like to be all up in my business. Anyways, I had a few pieces of tape on back of a picture and he stepped on it and freaked out. I felt so bad because I didn't mean for him to step on it. I got it off of him but it took him a while to calm down.

I did it once for a "smart test" for a science class thing way back in 7th grade. I think we were trying to figure out if my cat was left or right handed -- surprisingly they have a preference, just like humans do.
A game that my cat loves to play is with hair clips -- the little mini ones that come in all colors. I put them all over him and he pulls them out one by one, but the funny thing is as soon as he pulls one out and goes looking for another, I replace the one he just took out. He finds it fun, and will actually sit in front of me when I'm doing my hair practically begging to play the "clip game."

NO, I've never done that and I never will. It's cruel. They are honestly freaked out about that...
My ex bf's friend did that to his cat once and the cat has not been around him in over 5 years. He runs away and won't even look at him.

Instead of tape, which can pull their fur off when taking it off, try aluminum foil. I used to do that when i was younger. It works better on a hard surface because it makes a funny noise.
