Hello all , I just installed a car stereo for my sisters car the other day.
Everything seemed fine, then when I opened her car door the stereo and her clock go off!
So te stereo and clock work fine when the doors are shut but when they are open they cut out.
Can anyone tell me where I went wrong.
Thanks
Rory

Dont think any wires are pulling because It happens when I just push the button in and out (door sensor button?)

I figured I had wired it wrong just not exactly sure which wires I may have got wrong. I'm not very good with these things lol

I have to say, that's one I haven't seen before.

Here's what might be going on:

Your clock and radio probably share the same constant power circuit in the factory wiring. For some reason the normal power supply to this circuit isn't working properly, and the circuit has been connected to your vehicle's door trigger wire. Most door switch circuits are what's called a negative-switched system, which means the door switch wire has voltage on it until the door is opened; then it's grounded.

The trouble is I can't imagine how this could happen during a typical, or even atypical, radio installation.

The first thing to do is pull everything out, including any extra wiring you may have run to other parts of the vehicle. If you added a wire from the radio harness to the fuse box or any wiring under the dash, remove it. If any two factory wires are connected together, and they weren't connected before, then take them apart again.

Next, check ALL the fuses, including any fuse box under the hood. My guess is that your vehicle's clock fuse is blown.

If you can get it so that the vehicle's clock is working properly while the radio is removed, then you're ready to start over. Re-install the radio, and be sure to use only the wires that were originally connected to the factory radio. Your new radio shouldn't need any additional wiring in order to work properly.

If you can't get it working, I'd suggest taking it to a professional. This problem won't be easy to troubleshoot without looking at the vehicle.

Good luck!

It almost sounds like you have a bad ground, from first guess.

When the doors are shut, the continuity throughout the car is very good. But when you open a door, the continuity is all lost because the door created an open/dead spot.

I would suggest moving the ground wire (black) to another location on the car that is actually touching a good part of the metal frame.... and not plastic or part molding, etc.

yeah you may have wired it wrong... or... The speaker in the door that is opening needs to be rewired! Because if it is pulling on something it could be shorting out your sisters head unit! Because the speaker wires are power wires also!

if it is a newer car it may have a auto dimmer as the doors open .... but you should have gotten a wiring harness. and it if you got 1 it should be fine. Just use the make model and year of the car at your local electronic store they should be able to hook you up with one
