Here in NZ we have 7 species of deer as well as thar, chamios, pigs, goats, water foul, phesants etc.
Personally I like hunting either the red deer because of their size or the fallow because that was the first deer i ever roared in. Pigs will alway be special if taken with a bow. But what do you love hunting where you are and why?

Elk in the western United States -- similar to your red stag. NZ scenery is grand for sure, but the Western Slope of the Colorado Rockies on a cold fall morning with bugling elk all around is beyond compare.

I live in Pennsylvania and we have whitetail deer, black bear, turkey, and many other species of game. I hunt basically everything allowed by law and I trap everything else. I love the thrill of hunting for whitetail deer, however one of the coolest animals to hunt is the coyote. You hunt coyotes, or "yotees" as we call 'em, at night when it's pitched black. I usually use either a 12-gauge with 00 buckshot or a small rifle such as a .223. It is not all that dangerous i suppose but it is very interesting because you never know how close a coyote might be. I play tapes like "rabbit in distress" or use a call to mimic the lone howl of a coyote. Then you wait a few minutes and flip on the spotlight to see what's around. It's a very cool experience and a coyote makes a very nice and colorful rug. "Live to Hunt

In Illinois we have whitetail deer, pheasant, squirrel, turkey, dove, quail, pheasant, rabbit and probably a few more I forgot to mention. I like Deer best since you get more meat for the license and deer camp is one of those " Boy's clubhouse shack-No girls allowed" type thing.

I also like squirrel, rabbit and pheasant but rarely hunt the birds or rabbits anymore. I'm pretty much down to whitetail deer and squirrel. I go along on the Turkey hunt because I am the best camp cook they have.

I dont get to do much hunting these days but to me coyotes were my favorite. Using a predator mouthcall or a squeaker, call em in very close. we hunted them in the winter so there pelts are bueatiful and thick, this was in eastern washington. We didnt eat them we just wanted the pelts, plus they have overpopulated in most places and need to be hunted for there own good. You would be surprised at how tough of a quarry these guys are. Rifle used was a ruger m77 mark 2 chambered in .243 win. with custom loads, were talkin 4,000 feet per second with that badboy. I also like hunting small game, squirrels, rabbits turkeys.

My answer would be unhelpful. i began out searching back in 1953 shooting jack rabbits in basic terms outdoors the l. a. city limits and employing a .22 long rifle. It became large relaxing, exciting, complicated. no person became around in those days. over the years on the grounds that, I incredibly have hunted throughout California, in Idaho, Montana, Colorado, Alaska, British Columbia, Hawaii, Alberta, Poland, Scotland and South Africa. I incredibly have efficiently hunted enormous game and birds and used many different rifles and shotguns. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, the finest searching i can bear in mind became employing a .22 long rifle finding for jackrabbits in basic terms outdoors the city limits of l. a.. you could no longer do this immediately, regrettably.

Katrina and Roger....please STFU and go hug a tree or something. This is a hunting board, your opinions much like yourselves are not relevant here.

I live in the southeast United States and we have fantastic hunting here. While I enjoy many hunts, my favorite has the be the VERY large hogs we have here. I really enjoy squirrels as they let me do a tremendous amount of hiking and scouting while I hunt.

Whats a Chamios?

I used to go Moose hunting into Canada with my folks - it was fun because I got to miss two weeks of school, and I had the time to bond even more closely with my parents.

It was also fun because the Moose is so big, and when they get mad, whoa! You are taking your life in your own hands! There is a certain thrill when you have a bull charging at you and your rifle jams!
