Fiction (myth) or reality.?
It has been believed by some historians and laymen that Mahabharat is just a fictitious fable emerged from the fantastic brain of the Sage Ved Vyas. It has been contended that such a 'war' could not have occured owing to the detailed description of various facets of the 'epic'. However, tradition as well as many Bharatiya scholars have all along maintained that Mahabharat did actually occur and is a complete reality.
so what do you think about it.?

Its a reality. There are proofs.
Atleast i believe in it.

And as u had asked about my not leaving Yahoo Answers.
What should i say ?Well i answered some questions today. U know that its my final year of graduation. There r loads to study, spend the whole day in the University, sit in each class for 45 - 90 mins, the professors lecture hitting your ears, some books not available, have to stay hungry sometimes for the whole day, have lunch sometimes only after 4:00. Its so irritating & tiresome. I can't say about others but i get too tired to sit before the computer for hours !!
I don't know . May be i am complaining too much.
But each day i am getting more irritated.
I really need to concentrate on my studies !
Hope you understand dear friend. :-)
Well i might come sometimes in between coz i miss all my dear friends here. :-(

If myths like Jesus walking on the waters of the ocean and the ocean waters separating to porvide a way the Moses and his folowers some 2000 years ago could be bleieved why not the myths of Mahabharata some sixthousand years ago should not be blieved- especailly when the Bhagavad -gita that forms the sixth chapter of that great epeic contains matters like the stars and planets falling into the flames of a bigger star much like the formation of the supernova which has been proved by scientific reasearh only in the 20Th century , cannot be believed ?

I have listened to the great Indian Epics of our times-The Ramayan and The Mahabharat- ever since I was so high, on my mother’s knee. They have never ceased to fascinate me and never will. The plots, sub- plots stratagems, the deceits, the travails of life and the vicissititudes of the human situation are intertwined, constructed and integrated around "a central theme of divine incarnation", to form a sweeping canvas of the drama of life. Every reading will make one glean new meanings.

Incidentally the war was not localised in India alone, Other countries also took part. The Bhagawatam will vouch for it. But why attempt to dissect it? A grand theme, vast scope and a panoramic sweep of life covering every single gamut of human emotion, all make it one of the great epics of all times. The Ramayan and the Mahabharat will live on in people's lives as long as the holy river Ganga flows on earth.

History has always been a myth.

Regarding Mahabaratha, reference to the book "Chariots of God", currently there is a ozone hole over the place "Gurushethra" - the place where the war took place.

According to scientists, ozone hole happens in atmosphere of the earth where atom bomb and laser is used. Does that mean Laser or Atom bomb was used in the war? Something to think... Means war as described in Mahabaratha had taken place?

Because of the above scientific reasons, I believe Mahabaratha war to have taken place. But let me tell you that something ubnormal has happened which has inspired people of those days to write it.

Did it reallty happen as per the story? Not too sure.... But something ubnormal has happened.... Story writers have added their illutions and thinkings and made it to a story so that even the lay man can understand the ethics and epics of human life.

*like u, i too am a bit confused abt the authenticity of the epics !!!!
I believe , in olden days , epics or stories were made & told, to teach people the value & path of right & good living ....... by giving examples !!!!!!
People imbibe the good virtues wn they hear it in a story-form ,much better !!!
Hence the birth of ramayana and m/bharata !!!
BUt ....... since these epics do impart good teachings and lessons, we shd try & follow them as much as we can , & forget whether they were myths or real ........
Even if they were real, over the passage of time, something is bound to be added [exaggerated] & subtracted in the stories !!!!
So lets not get into the hassle of authencity and revere the good words in the epics !!!!

It is definitely the reality! Many many proofs for that exist. But may be some i.e. 2% of it might be false practically, but have been given importance coz they have very important significance, without which the Mahabharata would have been incomplete.

It was as true as you, me, and the historians who believe it is fiction. Actually these people are so foolish that it is a waste of one's time getting into arguments with them. Let them believe what they feel like.

What do we really know for sure?

Why do we need to know the past while all we ever have is now?

All the above and below answers are true when compared to themselves and each is false if compared to each other.

We used to believe for quite a while that earth was flat too.

Please dont go by the version of pseudo seculars/comunists of india

They are spread on powerful posts and have defaced the Indian culture

If we go by them, arya invasion happened, krishna never was, Mahabharat never happened, Maharaja Ranjit Singh was a dacoit, Aurangzeb was a kind king.... etc etc.

But time is chaning and people are realising that they have done a great harm to indian culture..
