Hi there, I have a female spayed cat who is now 1 year old. She has always been an odd cat because she can be alternately aggressive and loving - she will come to me for a love in the morning, but throughout the rest of the day she can be prone to tantrums and violence, hissing at my friends and family or even scratching me and my partner. I recently got a 6 week old kitten ( a boy) and I am having problems introducing them. He has been ill which has made it hard as well. On the first day she hissed and spat but didn't do much else, and he hissed back. Over the next 2 days they sniffed each other and she even licked him and ate near him. Now, day 4, she attacks him on sight and has even flipped him onto his back. I can't tell whether or not she is playing - he isn't meowing in complaint, but he has been poorly and he might just be too scared. She isn't hissing either but her behaviour doens't look safe, so I always split them up. What do I do to make this work? Help!

Keep them apart for a few days, allowing them to smell each other's things. Then bring them together, allowing them to smell each other, but when they are really calm (having their afternoon sleep or sth.), while you hold the kitten. After that, you can let them stand on the floor together, preferably eating, so that they associate their meeting with sth. good. If your cat doesn't hiss, you can let them play together. She will play rough. She will keep the kitten down and bite him. she will chase him and grab him liek a toy. She has to do that to estabvlish her dominance. Be there to split them up if things turn too rough. If she doesn't hiss however, and she doesn't injure it, they'll get along. See if she releases the kitten when it starts to cry. See if she really bites hard or play-bites. My cat was liek this with the new kitten, and they still are like that, but sometimes they lick each other and they have become inseparable. If the kitten goes back to her, it means he wants her, so she is not hurting him too much. As he grows bigger, it won't be too dangerous for him any more. The cat wants to make sure he knows who's boss. For the moment, keep them in another room when you sleep or when you are not there. After about a month they'll be OK. Sounds like they'll get along, from your description, especially since she has licked him! I think she has adopted him and is training him now. Only split them up when things look really dangerous.

I have 3 cats and i got one of them as an adult and the way i did it was getting a HUGE laundry basket(the short wide ones) turning it over and putting the new cat in there for a lil while and let the other cats sniff him and get them used to each other. and i kept doing it for 2 days and before u knew it i took the basket away and they all roamed around the house like nothing. I couldnt believe it! I just went with my instincts.
p.s. I didnt keep my kitty in the basket for 2 days..(just so you wont think that I was being cruel or anything) i had him in a different room and then when i wanted to let them get used to each other then i would try this. Good Luck!!

i've got in no way had cats yet I even have had canines. My boxer, Bouncer, became the comparable way whilst we've been given her. Her first six months have been spent in a cage being omitted whilst her proprietor's different dogs, a chihuahua, became allowed to roam freely. whilst we extra her residing house, she appeared all perfect before each and everything. until she met our older boxer Taylor and commenced struggling with her unprovoked. Taylor ultimately exceeded from age and a pair years later we babysat my aunt's lab. For the 1st time in years, Bouncer attacked yet another woman dogs, she left our male boxer on my own whilst we extra him residing house after Taylor exceeded, unprovoked. actual, your ensure's cat thinks that it owns your place and your undesirable kitten is being seen as an uninvited customer. What we did whilst Bouncer attacked aother dogs became we separated her from the dogs and closed her in a mattress room for an hour or 2 so as that she knew that she became in the incorrect. saved her at bay an incredible form of the time.

If he isn't meowing when she's attacking him then she's not hurting him. She's probably just establishing dominance. My dogs did that when we brought a puppy into the house. I've been around plenty of kittens and they fight rough with each other. When one kitten bites another too hard they'll squeal, so I don't see a problem here, especially since she's bigger and could do more damage if she wanted.

I am sorry but I know of no sure fire way to make two cats get along.
In my experience, they eventually make a truce....just give it time and keep an eye out as you've been doing for the little one, and they will most likely eventually not fight.
As for being friends, who knows...Mine were raised together, and only half the time do they act like they like each other.
I know this sounds discouraging, but my point is, They WILL work it out!
Good Luck to you!

They will get used it to each other eventually - they are currently trying to establish the pecking order.
on a side note - if the kitten was ill when you got him, why did you not quarantine him until he was better rather than putting him in with your girl? It's possible you may wind up with your girl catching whatever he had!
