First off, eat something like a candy bar before you go in, it will right your blood sugar levels and help prevent nausea pass, that was told to me by my artist. You can take painkillers if you wanted to, they will thin you blood but not enough to make it difficult for the artist to do his work. However, if your all loopy when you go in and they suspect your on something, their likely to kick you out.
I dont do anything but make sure I eat a candy bar or something right before I go in, and after the first start the tattoo, to me thats the worst part, the anticipation) I'm good to go!
I've had two tattoo's that were nearly two hours in length and the next piece I am getting added to my half sleeve is a custom drawn pin up girl that my artist said would take approx 2-2 1/2 hours to do, she's fairly detailed. Think I'll keep a snickers in my pocket too! lol
You'll do fine! Just take deep breaths, in your nose and out of your mouth, and it'll help right you.

Pleaz DONT take painkillers they thin your blood and you will bleed loads!!! I got a tattoo last week and another guy was getting one done and they had to stop half way through caus he had taken painkillers and was bleeding loads.
I ALWAYZ has a sugar rich meal before and sip a can of coke while im waiting 4 my turn. It calms your nerves and having high blood sugar will make you feel better!
Good luck =)

Ask the tattoo parlor before you take anything. Some painkillers thin your blood. They can more than likely suggest something to take the edge off, but make sure you eat something and don't drink alcohol for 24 hrs before hand. again it thins your blood. The nausea can probably be fixed by the eating.
Have fun and enjoy, i know i did.

Eat a good meal before you go.
Don't do the sugar thing, eat
something that's high protein.
Talk to your artist about feeling
nausea and nervous. He'll talk
you down.
You're just a little over excited.
If you want, you can take a friend.
Remember to breath deep, not fast.
Everything is going to be fine.
Trust your artist to take care of you.

As a lot of people have already said - lots of sugary things (Choc bars, Coke etc), keep yourself hydrated. You can take some forms of pain killer, but NOT asprin based. A friend of mine who's half way through a full body suit swears by Nurofen, but I've not tried it yet. Main thing is to relax and look forward to the finished results! Good luck.

keep yourself distracted... the tattoo parlour where i went was good as they had a TV in the room, so i watched that to take my mind off it - but u could take a friend to talk to, or a magazine / book with u. also, take a drink in with u - something like fruit juice. it will help keep your blood sugars up, and stop u from feeling faint. yes - u can take painkillers, but stick to the recommended dose. not sure how much pain relief they will give u, but it's worth a try... other than that, it's just a matter of gritting your teeth and waiting for it all to be over ! good luck - i'm sure it'll all be worth it.

It's called anxiety......you're excited, yet
nervous.
You did it before, so it can't be that bad.
Please don't drink a coke or have chocolate, that will make you more nervous because of the sugar.
Have a small sandwich or soup, take
a couple deep breaths and enjoy.
Oh yes, by the way, take a girlfriend along and hold her hand and talk to her during the tat.........it helps to be a
little distracted.
enjoy........

i don't think you can take pain killers before and if so i'd be surprised if they do anything. just deep breathing when having it done and some water. you can't prepare for one just don't think about it. and although every one feels it differently mine felt as tho a cat was scratching me then the pain went away. if you have a good tattooist they will constantly be talking to you this for me stopped the sickness and pain. hope this has helped good luck

Important rule.
Having a tattoo can be uncomfortable, if you need a break from the needle to compose yourself you only have to ask.... Any reputable artist will allow this and understand if you're feeling "off-colour"
