Get some Advantage or Frontline from your vet. Treating your yard, other than keeping the grass short won't work. It's a better idea to put prevention on the dog that treat the rest of the world for fleas.

Hey there Alexis,
If I may suggest an alternate solution, have you heard of SENTINEL heartworm pills? If not, SENTINEL protects your dog against heartworm (which you need to guard against anyhow) and it repels fleas and ticks as well! My house is in a woods, I have 2 long-haired dogs, and neither has ever had a flea or a tick. And they spend all day (while I'm at work) outside in a pen.

I have to give them a SENTINEL pill once a month. Your vet needs to check for heartworm before you can begin giving your dog the pills. Good luck!

for the yard I would reccomend you find an exterminator that sprays lawns . i have done that for yrs and it is best to do that none of the commercial products do the job like an lawn service does . l live in the city and I have a yard and have two dogs and have never had a flea or tick one on them . good luck.

Sevin dust. Spread it just before a rain shower, or wet the treated area with a hose after application. I have a dog and 4 cats, all get to go out in the yard. I use revolution topical on my pets, and sevin dust in the yard, I never even see fleas on them. Yardlover.com
