I got a Mosin Nagant M 91/30 that holds a 7.62x54r round. I was using it just at the local shooting range for target practice, but I am considering hunting. My question is what would be good game or what would be the biggest game that you could hunt with a 7.62x54r round.

I also own a Mosin Nagant, but have never hunted from it.

You shouldn't have a problem hunting deer with a Mosin Nagant, but you could also try elk, or maybe even moose with it.

It's not particularly suited to hunt varmint, and you probably need a bigger cartridge to hunt bear.

It's also good for pest control if you have any coyotes or foxes.

Basically, it's a war rifle, not really designed to hunt animals. But it's quite a powerful round and should be able to take down large game.

The 7.62x54 round is ballistically simliar to the 30-06. just slightly less powerful. It is suitable for hunting any medium to large game on the north American continent.

I concur, it is a large round capable of doing some tremendous damage. Due to the fact that it is a war rifle if the first shot doesnt kill it you can always buttstroke or bayonet the animal....lol

If it was used to kill people, what makes you think you couldn't use it to hunt any animal in North America*...?????
